December, 1955.
2--Death, at a London Hospital, of Captain J. E. (Jack) Morehen a former resident of Littleport. As a boy and in his early teens, he lived with his grandmother, the late Mrs. C. Scotting, at The Holmes. He later joined the army and spent 25 years in India. He was 50.
4--At the annual general meeting of the Eastern Counties Centre of the National Cyclists' Union held at Thetford, Norfolk, the name of Mr. L. Hicks, racing secretary of the Littleport Wheelers' C.C. was added to the list of assistant judges.
6--The Isle of Ely Education Committee agreed to make a grant of £100 to the Littleport Y.M.C.A. Youth Club for the financial year 1955-56.
7--At a meeting of the Ely Rural District Council it was revealed that the Clerk, Mr. C. Wickens, had completed 30 years with the Counciland had attended every meeting.
Funeral at Littleport of Mrs. Captain Olive Burgess, of the Salvation Army. Captain Burgess, a former resident of Littleport, died at Truro, Cornwall. She was 43.
8--Annual meeting of the Ely Branch of the National Farmers' Union. Mr. C. J. E. S. Fendick was elected chairman.
9--Miss Velda Taylor, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Taylor, of 89, Victoria Street, Littleport, was successful in passing the State Preliminary Examination at the Southend General Hospital, Essex.
Music Success.At recent examinations held at Cambridge in connection with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Ann Clift was successful in theory of music, grade 2 (elementary). She was a pupil of Mrs. Haines.
News received of the death of Captain E. E. Hill, M.B.E., D.C.M., M S.M., of Herne Bay, a former Littleport resident and ex-army officer with a distinguished record. He was brother to Mrs. F. Stevens, of 65, Victoria Street.
Engagement announced between Mr. Paul Holmes, of Ely, and Miss Betty Pettit, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.Pettit, of 62, Parsons Lane, Littleport.
10--End of Littleport Shopping Week The. Silver Cup for the best dressed shop window was won by Mr. M. W. Barrett, florist and fruiterer.
13--Annual meeting of Littleport Women's Institute. Mrs. W. J. Gill was again returned as president and other re-elections were Mrs. J. Gilbert (treasurer) and Mrs. T. B. Gordon (secretary).
14--Children of the County Primary School presented their annual play. It was Johanna Spyri's " Heidi."
Miss Margaret Garwood, of Wellington Street, Littleport, qualified to play in the fourth round of the "Daily Mirror" national table-tennis tournament. She defeated Miss Shirley Kisby, of Peterborough.
15--Messrs. George Comins & Son held their first post-war Christmas fat stock show and sale at Ely. Pigs entered by Mr. W. Ayres and Mr. A. J. R. Stebbings, both of Littleport, gained first prizes.
Messrs. A. T. Grain & Sons held their Christmas fat stock show at Ely. A heifer, entered by Mr. B. W. Bishop, of Littleport, took the champion beast award. It weighed 8 3/4 cwt. Other local prizewinners were Mr. Jack Wilson (steer) and Mr. G. E. Murfitt (pigs).
16--Littleport Ladies' Choir held a dinner at the Cutter Inn, Ely, to celebrate a successful year. A presentation in the form of a musical goblet was made to Mrs. C. R. Browning, their conductress.
17--A black and tan rabbit entered in the Mansfield adult stock show by Mr. C. B. Cadnum, of Littleport, gained three awards.
!!! 19--Mr. T. B. James smothered a blazing oil-stove in Black Horse Drove community centre and prevented the outbreak from spreading until the arrival of the Littleport Fire Brigade. His prompt action saved the loss of the centre.
23--Engagement announced between Mr. Lionel Dudley Darrell, of Wokingham, Berks., and Miss Ursula Mary Payne, second daughter of the Rev. Canon and Mrs. J. K. C. Payne, of the Vicarage, Littleport.

4--A beautiful portrayal of the Christmas story was presented in mime at the Parish Church by children of the Sunday School.
Mr. N. Robbins, former Littleport and District Colporteur, was received and inducted as Pastor at Pound Lane Baptist Chapel, Isleham.

9--Littleport Wheelers C.C. held their annual meeting. Cyril Arnold was congratulated on winning the 10-mile track championship of the Eastern Counties Centre N.C.U.
10--Meeting of Littleport Women's Institute. A Christmas card received by the president (Mrs. W. Gill) from the branch's link in Australia was displayed.
13--Engagement announced between Peter, eldest son of Mr. A. Hines, of Mildenhall Road, Littleport, and the late Mrs. Hines, and Marina, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duffield, of Lark Bank, Prickwillow.
19--Annual meeting of Littleport Town Cricket Club. In his report, the secretary (Mr. F. Watson) paid high tribute to Sid Stubbings who, during the past season, had taken over 100 wickets, and to Anthony South who scored more than 200 runs, averaging over 40.
25--Death, at the R.A.F. Hospital, Ely, following a fall while repairing a piggery roof, of Mr. Clifford Fletcher, of Friars Way. He was 23.

3--Jack Hubbard, one of the most popular and sporting scramble riders in the district, was guest of honour at the Littleport and District Motor Cycle and Light Car Club's annual dinner.
7--Annual meeting of the Littleport Parent-Teacher Association held at the Primary School. Miss M. Davy, headmistress, conducted and, in closing, invited all parents to discuss any problem relating to their children's school life with the teachers at any time.
8--Death in London, of Mr. George William Taylor, formerly of Wisbech Road, Littleport. Mr. Taylor, a member of a very old local family, was the brother of Mrs. Lincoln, of Granby Street, and of Mrs. Lester, of Wisbech Road.
11--Wedding at Ely, between Mr. George Timbers, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. R Timbers, of March and formerly of Covenham Farm Black Horse Drove, and Miss June Pettengell third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pettengell, of Black Horse Drove.
11--The Littleport British Legion Women's Section were awarded the Blackett-Ord Cup for general efficiency, a trophy competed for by the whole Eastern Area, comprising ten counties. The trophy was presented to Mrs. V. Hare (delegate) by Lady Cooke at a conference held in London.
14--Monthly meeting of the Women's Institute. In a competition for "the best pair of feet" Mrs. Easy and Mrs. Gordon were the winners.
15--Members of the Littleport Women's Fellowship provided the social programme at a meeting of the Burnt Fen Women's Institute.
17--Women's World Day of PrayerRepresentatives of all denominations in Littleport attended a service held in the Alexandra Hall. The speaker was Lady Brackenbury.
18--Wedding at Ely between Miss Josephine Bishop, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Bishop, of "Ridgeways", The Crescent, and Mr. Reginald Reeder, only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Reeder of High Street.
20--Fifty members and friends of St. Matthew's Cricket Club enjoyed an excellent sausage supper at the "Three Horse Shoes."
22--Marriage, at Ealing, London, of Miss Ann Miles, of Ealing, and Mr. Kenneth Missen, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Missen, of Parsons Lane, Littleport. The bridegroom is a member of the Metropolitan Police and is stationed at Ealing.
Littleport Guides and Brownies celebrated their open night at the Primary School. It was "Thinking Day", the joint birthday of the founder and the World Chief Guide.
24--Engagement announced between Miss Doreen Skipper, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Skipper, of Lynn Road, Littleport, and Mr. Mackenzie Thorpe, of Wisbech.
!!! 29--A scheme for the installation of class "A" street lighting from Portley Hill to Quay Hill, submitted to Littleport Parish Council by the Eastern Electricity Board, was shelved because of the heavy cost.

3--Littleport British Legion Band individual darts tournamentA. V. Smith (Littleport) defeated L. Cuthbert (Little Downham) in the final to win the 25-guinea trophy.
6--The Isle of Ely Education Committee agreed to ask the County Housing Committee to provide a block of flats to be erected at Littleport for the use of the teaching staff at the Littleport schools.
Isle of Ely Federation of Women's Institutes' singing competitions held at Witchford. The Littleport choir gained the award in Class 1.
6--Annual meeting of the Littleport branch of the Ancient Order of Foresters. Brother T. B. Ambrose, C.R., chairman since 1938, was re-elected.

7--Meeting of Littleport Parent-Teacher Association. The special speaker was Mr. G. A. Lyward, vice-president of the English New Educational Fellowship. His subject was "The difficult problem of growing up."
Annual dinner of the Littleport St. John Ambulance Brigade. Mr. and Mrs. W. Goy, of Bourne, formerly of Bank House, Littleport, were present.
8--Death at Holt, Norfolk, where she had lived for the past four years, of Mrs. Eliza Morton, formerly of Victoria Street, Littleport. Mrs. Morton was the widow of the late Mr. F. Morton, a well-known local farmer, who died in 1951. She was 87.
!!! 9--Meeting of Littleport War Memorial Committee. It was decided to appeal for £200 to cover the cost of the memorial and its erection.

Opening meeting of the Littleport United Crusade held at St. John's Methodist Church to welcome the evangelistic "Hour of Revival" team who, under the leadership of Mr. Eric Hutchings were to conduct the crusade.

17--At the Cambridge Choral Festival, Littleport Ladies' Choir, under the conductorship of Mrs. C. R. Browning, were awarded the challenge cup for gaining the highest marks in the Village Choir section. They were placed second in the open section.
18--Rev. Canon J. K. C. Payne, Vicar of Littleport, preached at Ely Cathedral.
24--For the second year in succession the 1st Littleport Girl Guides, under their captain Miss M. Davy, were awarded the shield in the County Camp Fire Song Competition, held at Cambridge.
26--Long service awards were presented to Firemen W. A. Gotobed (31 years) and A. W. Sparrow (21 years), both members of the Littleport Fire Formation.
29--Pleading guilty to stealing 191 chickens valued at £174 10s. 0d. from Mr. Eaton Peckett, of Littleport, two King's Lynn men were each sentenced to six months' imprisonment by the Ely magistrates. They had been involved in chicken robberies covering five counties.
30--Engagement announced between Miss Veena Brown, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Brown, of Parsons Lane, Littleport, and Mr. Robin Langley, of Southery.
Ely and District table tennis tournaments held at Ely. The senior tournament was won by Norman South, of Littleport. His brother Anthony won the junior tournament.

31--Marriage, at Littleport Parish Church, between Miss Ursula Mary Payne, second daughter of the Rev. Canon J. K. C. Payne, vicar of the parish, and Mrs. Payne, and Mr. Lionel Dudley Darrell, of Wokingham, Berks. The ceremony was performed by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, the Rt. Rev. H. E. Wynn.

6--Engagement announced between Cyril, only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Rogers, of Wisbech Road, Littleport, and Sylvia, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Harrison, of Burnt Fen.
7--Return home from Malta, of Mr. Bruce Hines, elder son of Mr. And Mrs. S. Hines, of Friars Place, Littleport. He brought with him his Maltese bride, the former Miss Tessie Fenech. The couple met while Mr. Hines was serving with H.M. forces in Malta.
By winning the "Daily Herald" Area Challenge Shield at St. Pancras Town Hall, London, in the London & Southern Counties Area qualifying contests, Littleport British Legion Band qualified to play in the National Brass Band Championships to be held in October.
13--Cambridge Festival of MusicMiss Ann Browning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Browning, of Littleport, was awarded the Knowles Cup for folk singing. She gained the highest marks in the festival.
Following a fall from his auto-cycle, Captain G. H. Robbins, Evangelist-in-charge at St. John's, Little Ouse, was admitted to the R.A.F. Hospital, Ely. The accident occurred on the Black Horse Drove Road.
16--Annual meeting of Black Horse Drove Community Centre Association. A balance in hand of £107 5s. 5d. was reported.
!!! 17--The first instalment, estimated to cost £8,911, of the new Littleport junior mixed school was approved by the Isle of Ely Education Committee for erection during the current financial year.
18--The Ministry of Housing & Local Government refused to sanction a loan of £11,500 for Littleport's proposed new swimming pool.

19--At Ely Magistrates' Court, Mr. Cyril J. E. S. Fendick, of Little Downham, and formerly of Littleport, was sworn in as a special constable.
20--Littleport's Over-Sixties' Club held its first afternoon social at the Alexandra Hall. Mrs. Cobbin was awarded a prize for possessing the most grandchildren (21).
22--Motor cyclingAt the Cambridge Centaur Club's scramble, held at Arrington, Ted Power, well-known Littleport rider, finished first in the last event of the day.
About 25 tons of baled straw were destroyed by fire on Messrs. Hiam's Letter F Farm.
25--The Littleport & Downham District Internal Drainage Board, the oldest internal district in the country, held their bicentenary luncheon at the Club Hotel, Ely. Mr. J. H. Martin, J.P., the Board's chairman, and the sixth member of his family to hold the chairmanship, presided.
27--Annual inspection, display and prize-giving of 1st Littleport Company, the Boys' Brigade. The inspecting officer was Major E. F. Meany, U.S.A.F., and the prizes were presented by Mrs. Meany.
28--Littleport choir were awarded the first prize in the class for mixed choirs at the Isle of Ely Music Festival. Ann Browning was first in the folk singing class for ladies and Brian Bishop gained second place in the folk singing class for men.

1--CricketLittleport St. Matthew's defeated the Happy Wanderers by 7 runs.
Jumping from a school bus on the Mildenhall Road, Anthony Hinds of Council Houses, Mildenhall Road, ran into the path of an oncoming car. He sustained a fractured leg.
2--Ely Rural District Council decided that future in-going council house tenants should pay rent from the moment they receive their keys instead of having a "free" week in which to move in.
3--Annual meeting of the Littleport & Prickwillow Nursing Association. It was revealed that visits by the Nurses numbered 7,820, an increase on the previous year's figures of over 1,000.
Monthly meeting of Black Horse Drove Women's Institute. Mrs, D. Giddens, of Ely, gave a talk on corsetry.
3--Monthly meeting of the women's section of the British Legion. It was decided to organise a "British Legion Building Fund Week."
8--Monthly meeting of the Women's Institute. A competition"My ideal husband in eight words"produced some very witty entries.
9--Senior Captain P. Park, commanding officer of the local Salvation Army Corps for the past year, left Littleport to take up an appointment in Coltishall.
10--The Littleport Salvation Army Corps welcomed their new commanding officer, Senior Captain Minnie Balcombe.
11--Engagement announced between Miss Cynthia Easy, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Easy, of Friars Way, Littleport, and Mr. Peter Cuthbert, of Southery.
12--A flag day collection for the Isle of Ely Society for the Blind realised over £40. The collection was organised by members of the Women's Fellowship.
13--CyclingMrs. P. Chilvers, a member of the Littleport Wheelers' C.C., was successful in winning the Fenland R.R.A. ladies' 10-mile scratch and handicap time trial held at Wisbech, and became the Fenland 10-mile champion. The handicap medal was won by Miss C. Clarke, also of the Wheelers.
14--At a supper held by the Littleport Girl Guides, five guides were enrolled. They were Linda Sewell, Meryl Wilderspin, Eileen Bell, Jennifer Gray and Linda Crane.
17--Littleport Ladies' Choir gained two further trophies at a Peterborough music festival.
23--Presentation to Mr. F. R. Hannent, president of the Littleport branch of the British Legion, of the Legion's long service badge. The presentation was made by Mr. Harry Palmer, the county president.
Thirty-three candidates were confirmed at the Parish Church by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, the Rt. Rev. H. E. Wynn.
25--Cambs. & Isle of Ely County Show held at Ely. Mr. F. G. Starling took three first prizes with his Percheron horses.
Death, in London, of the Rev. R. J. A. Jary, a former curate at the Parish Church, Littleport, and later Vicar of St. John's Church, Hills Road, Cambridge. He took up his appointment at Littleport in September, 1902, the Vicar at that time being the Rev. F. E. Rogers.
26--In connection with the Cambs. & Isle of Ely County Show three employees of Messrs. J. H. Martin & Sons received the Royal Agricultural Society long service medal. They were: Mr. Ernest Glover, of High Street, Littleport; Mr. H. W. Easy, of Low Road, Littleport; and Mr. G. H. Youngs, of Chains Farm, Ten Mile Bank, Littleport.
Collections in Littleport for the British Empire Cancer Campaign realised £39 15s. 4d. The collections were organised by the Women's Institute.
28--Annual meeting of Littleport Swimming Club. The secretary (Mr. R. H. Gotobed) reported an increase in membership of 80 but regretted that only 21 were adults.
June.
1--Engagement announced between Mr. David Bye, son of Mr. And Mrs. E. J. Bye, of Littleport, and Miss Ann Hill, of Glasgow.
3--Dedication, by the Rev. Cyril G. Wade, of the Littleport St. John Brigade's new ambulance.
6--The Isle of Ely Education Committee accepted a tender of £100,782 15s. 11d. from Messrs. S. S. Ambrose & Son Ltd., of Ely, for the erection of the new Littleport school.
7--Eighth birthday of the Black Horse Drove Women's Institute. The guests at the celebration party were members of the Sedge Fen W.I.
8--Over 20 members of the Mothers' Union attended the Deanery Festival at Little Downham.
!!! Littleport County Primary School's annual outing. 188 children, teachers and members of the Parent-Teacher Association made the journey to Windsor, followed by a visit to London Airport.
An outbreak of fire in a shed at the back of Mr. Walker Barber's house in Victoria Street resulted in the loss of a large quantity of baled straw and considerable damage to the shed. Mr. Colin Thornhill kept the flames in check with a garden hose until the arrival of the Fire Service. The fire was started by children playing with matches.
12--Monthly meeting of Littleport Women's Institute. Mrs. T. Misson, who attended the annual meeting at the Albert Hall as delegate of the branch, gave an account of the proceedings.
16--Hunts. Agricultural Society's annual showMr. F. G. Starling's Percheron horses won three first awards and a challenge cup for the best Percheron in the show.
Because of heavy rain the Parish Church garden fete was transferred from the Vicarage gardens to the Constitutional Hall. The proceeds amounted to £98.
Marriage, at Newmarket Registry Office, of Mr. Frederick Robert King, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. King, of Victoria Street, Littleport, and Miss Mabel Benton, of Mildenhall.
17--Members of Littleport Parish Council attended Mattins at the Parish Church. The Council's chairman, Mr. J. H. Martin, read the lesson.
!!! 18--While working on the Black Horse Drove Coldharbour Farm of Mr J C Rains, Mr. R. Smith unearthed a bronze axe-head, which was identified by a museum as being 3,000 years old. A flint spear-head also found on Mr. Rains' farms was identified as over 5,000 years old.
19--Pupils of Littleport Secondary School travelled to London to see the Royal Tournament.
22--Avis Langley and Diana James, both of Black Horse Drove, passed the Grade 1 Ballet Dancing examination held by the Royal Academy of Dancing.
23--Norman Shelley, the well-known B.B.C. and television artiste, opened the Littleport Women's Institute Garden Fete held in Mr. and Mrs. Percy Morton's garden, Victoria Street, to raise funds for the "Over Seventies" party. The result was £86/9/9.
Death, at Westcliff-on-Sea, of Mr. George Robert Stimson Cheeseright, formerly of "Blossholme", Ely Road, Littleport. He was 88.
28--Littleport Angling Club decided to let all old age pensioners fish free of charge in the club's waters.
30--The Salvation Army garden fete, held in the garden of Hampden House, the home of Mrs. T. Peake, realised £46. The fete was opened by Mrs. Robert Jones, of Littleport.

1--Annual flower service held at the Parish Church. The flowers brought by the children were presented to the R.A.F. Hospital, Ely.
AnglingThe local club's Hunt Cup competition was won by A. Shipp with a catch of 6 lb. 8 oz.
3--The Governors of the Littleport mixed school refused to grant the use of the playing field to the Women's Section of the British Legion for children's sports.
A tender of £7,365 7s. 6d. was accepted by the Isle of Ely Education Committee for the installation of the heating system at the new Littleport Secondary School.
4--Littleport Primary School (Infants') sports. Mr. J. H. Crane presented the prizes.
5--CricketCyril Smith Cup: final. Mildenhall defeated Little Downham by 24 runs.
!!! 7--A new, red canary, shown by Mrs. B. Oakman, of The Crescent, Littleport, created a mild sensation at the Chatteris and District cage bird show and gained 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th awards in the class for any other variety.
Wedding, at Ely Register Office, between Mr. Maurice Gathercole, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Gathercole, of Ten Mile Bank Road, Littleport, and Miss Dons Stone, of Colney Fen.
A jumble sale, organised by members of the Over Sixties' Club, realised £35.
10--Monthly meeting of the Women's Institute. A presentation was made to Mrs. Gill (president) to mark the members' appreciation of her efficient organisation of the recent outing to Birmingham.
15--The opening of Littleport British Legion Women's Section "week" took the form of a grand parade followed by an open-air service on the playing field. Thirty units of the British Legion Men's and Women's Sections attended.
17--First "At Home" of the St. John's Methodist Parent-Teacher Association. It was organised by the Rev. C. G. Wade.

CyclingLady riders of the Littleport Wheelers broke all records in the club's 25-mile scratch and handicap championship time trial. The riders were Carol Clarke and Poppy Chilvers.

4--Mr. Jack Murfitt, of New Road, Littleport, sustained head injuries when his motorcycle came into collision with a truck driven by Mr. Brian Lawrence, of Hale Fen.
A year of outstanding achievement was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Littleport British Legion Women's Section.
R. G. Sallis, a student of Soham Grammar School, was awarded a County Major Scholarship. An Exhibition was awarded to Ann Browning (Ely High School).

14--While driving his car on the White House Road in dense fog, Mr. F. Howe, of New River Bank, collided with a cycle ridden by Mr. Robert Simpson, of Shepherds Drove. Mr. Simpson sustained a hand injury.
!!! 15--A motorist, Mr. I. Thoday, of Willingham, crashed into the side of Mr. J. Firby's house in High Street, knocking a hole through the wall. The mishap occurred at 1 a.m. in thick fog. Mr. Thoday was removed to the R.A.F. Hospital.

17--Mr. S. P. Audus, of Wellington Street, Littleport, was involved in an accident when his car crashed into the rear of a stationary Land-Rover at Ely. Both vehicles were extensively damaged and Mr. Audus was taken to the R.A.F. Hospital.
!!! 19--A juvenile common buzzard, found in an exhausted condition by Mr. E. W. Harlock, was fed and kept by Mr. P. North until its recovery, when it was ringed with a British Trust for Ornithology ring by Mr. A. E. Vine and released. During its stay with Mr. North the bird consumed a whole chicken, several mice and a quantity of beef.

2--Mr. and Mrs. B. Oakman, of Littleport, gained premier awards for canaries, plus a special, and the Best British award with an albino house sparrow, at the Cambridge Cage Bird Association's show.
6--Cycling home after spending the evening with a friend, Mr. Robert Simpson, of Shepherds Drove, White House Road, misjudged the approach to a bridge, rode down a steep ten-foot bank into a drain, and was drowned. The accident occurred on the White House Road.
!!! 7--Acting on a report by their public health inspector, Ely Rural District Council decided to take no action on complaints about the condition of The Hythe water-course at Littleport.
10--Hereward Lodge of Odd Fellows held their annual tea party for juvenile members.
11--Remembrance DayA large congregation of all denominations filled the Parish Church to capacity. The special preacher was the Rev R E. Tosteven, Bishop's Chaplain and padre to the R A F Hospital, Ely. Services were also held at Black Horse Drove, Little Ouse, and St. Matthew's.
13--Monthly meeting of Littleport Women's Institute. Mrs. O. Watson was congratulated on gaining fifth place in the county lavender bag competition.
16--Inauguration, at the Guildhall, Cambridge, of the Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely Naturalists' Trust. Mr. A. E. Vine, of Victoria Street, Littleport, was appointed secretary for the Isle of Ely.
17--At a British Legion Conference, held at Cambridge, the Littleport British Legion Women's Section were again awarded the Margaret Scott proficiency trophy. Local winners in the needlework and handicrafts competition were Mrs. N. O. Saul and Mrs. A. Sallis.
Collections taken at the Regal Cinema in aid of the National Institute for the Blind realised £13 15s. 0d.
18--Prayers for Hungary and the relief of refugees were said throughout the day at the Parish Church. The offertories were devoted to the Lord Mayor of London's relief fund. They amounted to £18 3s. 9d.
19--Death in Australia, of Mrs. H. W. Luff. Aged 50, Mrs. Luff was the third daughter of Mrs. R. T. Law, of Victoria Street, Littleport, and the late Mr. Law. She emigrated to Australia 31 years ago and was married there. Her husband, three sons and three grandchildren, are left.
21--Members of the Littleport Ladies', Male Voice, and Children's Choirs presented a concert at the Grange. The guest soloist was Mrs. Muriel Hicks, of Wisbech.
23--Death of Mr. J. H. Adams. He was 83.
Prizewinning cadets in a local British Red Cross handwork competition were Sandra Betts and Mary Law.
24--The Littleport Salvation Army Christmas Sale was opened by Mrs. A. F. Price. The proceeds amounted to £51 5s. 1 1/2d.
27--Geoffrey Willett, thirteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Willett, of Main Street, caught a fine pike at Welney. It weighed 16 3/4 lb.
28--Members of the Littleport detachment of the Red Cross were included in the guard of honour for H.R.H. The Duchess of Gloucester at Cambridge where she attended the county Red Cross Bazaar. Her Royal Highness purchased a pair of knitted gloves Nurse King had made.
It was announced at a meeting of the Littleport Women's Fellowship that Mrs. M. Roaks was resigning from the club. She had been secretary for the past eight years.
Littleport's Poppy Day collections amounted to £244 13s. 10d, an increase on the previous year's figures.
