Adam, I have been trying to contact you through ordinary e-mail channels.I have checked and rechecked your address but I still get a rude message about a syntax error. I have kept my message in case I find out what to do. Since it is all typed with one finger I hope I will be successful Who knows perhaps this won't go either. It's like talking to oneself...........Cheers.........Donald Cooper , Dundas,Ont. Canada.

I just sent an e-mail a minute ago to you,but I think I goofed again! I have been trying to reach you through the normal methods but I keep getting a rude message about an error in syntax regarding your address. If this goes I will be surprised. I am holding a laboriously one fingered epistle, just in case I discover what is wrong.......Cheers....Don Cooper...Dundas Ontario Canada -------------- (now GO)

I lived in Littleport in 1991 - 94. Lived just outside the city on Wisbech Rd. Loved the area and the people. Had awesome neighbours by the name of Barker. Does anyone know if they are still there. Are the three houses near the industrial estate stilled rented out to USAF personnel? Can not wait to come back! My daughter was born there and really wants to see where it is. Adam...I have just been looking once more at your aerial shots, and have finally been able to orient myself. I must congratulate on a fine job with your pictures. Littleport has indeed grown as I cannot find some areas that were once familiar to me. Not many folks have yet used your guest book facilities---come old Littleporters, let's hear from you....Don Cooper...Dundas, Canada.

I want to congratulate you on the splendid pictures and tell you that after studying your aerial shots I have finally oriented myself with the village, though there seem to be a number of roads added with numerous new buildings.I see that your guestbook has very few entries since it has been opened.Come on old(and young) Littleporters let's find who you are and where you are. I live in Grantham, which is a few miles from the village of Stroxton (pronounced Strawson), from which all Strawsons are supposed to have come!!

good evening,I have wanting to contact someone in Littleport on the internet.I was born there and lived at 40 Parsons Lane until I got married in 1978. My wife and two children emigrated in November 1985 to the USA and currently live in Florida.I have an interest in the Harley Davidson connection as my mothers side of the family was Harley. I have seen the latest local newspaper with the Littleport show inside and was surprised to see an American civil war re-enactment. My parents still live on Parsons Lane and we call each other regularly.I intend to check your other websites out tonight, thankyou for your time and I will talk to you again soon. sincerely tony Bell

Hi Adam..I was reading the daily news on the Ely website and saw there, that Martin's farm on Ely Road was to be eliminated! That farm has been part of Littleport history for many years I suspect.I remember so many Sports Days and Agricultural events held in those large fields (Highfields?)Will these events now just become history when the area in all probability becomes a housing estate? Cheers..Don Cooper.

Terrific site. As it seems to be as much a dedicated site about Littleport as anything I have found on the web I wonder if I could mention Littleport Theatregoers. We are still going strong after six seasons and would be happy to hear from any more potential new members who enjoy travelling to see West End theatre from Littleport, Ely, but also from Norwich, Attleborough and Thetford. We have our own site which can be found at http://communities.msn.co.uk/LittleportTheatregoers the site also appears if you search for Littleport Theatregoers on the MSN search engine.            Link added to the links page. Great to see pictures of your village from Texas in the U.S.A. My family originated in Scotland I believe, and my great great grandfather came over to America after being raised in Manchester, England. I have visited your area, while landing at Mildenhall. My bro-in-law and Sister-in-law currently live in your village, while Matt is stationed in Mildenhall. Cross is their last name. We look forward to visiting next December for three weeks. It will be great to visit your area, Ely, and revisit Cambridge,London etc. Have a blessed holiday season. Howdy from West Texas!

My father was the local plod in Littleport and our ancestral family have lived in your village for at least 150 years. I am currently researching my family history and would appreciate any assistance anyone could provide. Can anyone assist - I have some records back to around 1830 (the first census) but nothing prior to that. HI! My daughter just found your website and we're thrilled! We are decended from Elizabeth Ward and John Thomas Washington who left Littleport for Dunkirk, NY, around the turn of the century. Their son, Joseph, was my grandfather and Kenneth, my father. We visited Littleport in March, 1999 and chatted with Mr. Cox(?), the owner of the meat store, in the Crown. He told us he thought there were still some Washington's and Ward's in the area. Does anyone know any possible relatives? We also found that the Washington cottage on Mill Pit Furlong was torn down in the 70's. We'd love to know where on the road it was located....does anyone know? Could it have belonged to the old steps we saw in the grass?! We would appreciate any information anyone might have! Thanks so much and say "Hi" to Mr. Cox! Hope

Brilliant website...wished I'd found it sooner! Interesting reading the Guestbook as it seems that other people are looking into the same family surnames as I am. I'm related to the Pettitt and Harley families too. I have recently moved to Littleport and I am trying to trace Littleport ancestors. My great grandmother was Louisa Pettitt who lived in Church Street (now Church Lane)in 1871...Does anyone know if the house exists?...Louisa was the neice of Issac Harley (born in the early 1840s). Can anyone who's interested in these too family names e-mailed me please. Any assistance with tracing my family routes will be gratefully received. P.S. If you have difficulties e-mailing me, please try adding .co.uk instead of .com

Littleport as a village with several nice wide roads and junctions is a thing of the past. Not inconsiderable sums of money are being spent on making the streets narrow in an effort to cause vehicles to bump into each other I am sure. I am also sure that there are many things that Littleport needed before it got round to road narrowing. More camera's, more policing, better street lighting, a real swimming pool etc: What do others think??

We live in the Ottawa Valley of Ontario, Canada, and are trying to gather family history of my wifes' side. Her great grandparents, Alexander and Elizabeth Willingham (nee Symper) had the Crown Inn in Sutton-in-the-Isle or the surrounding areas back in the late 1890s before coming to Canada. We wondered if there were any of those names still in the area. Alexander was also a cabinet-maker and coffin builder. We loved your site.

Yes, stephen south I remember the Under 15 cricket final at Mildenahll and the comments at Exning when david bedford was told to "hit out, Bedi" having just scored three fours and a six. I can also remember the heat of 1976 in the Tower Block which was unbelievable and having to teach in Mr finney's rural studies lab for my first year there. Many memories. Hi, Your site is charming. I have posted some old photos of my Strawson cousins from Lincolnshire. They are the family of William and Elizabeth Thistlewood Strawson. There are two albums of the Strawsons. One has unnamed photos. I'm hoping some one will recognize this family and help me put names to the pictures. http://communities.msn.com/MaurinesFamily Maurine

We recently visited Littleport and were made very welcome by Bruce Frost and Margaret. We were searching for our Palmer Roots. Gordon's Gr GR Grandfather was the Landlord of the Globe Inn from 1860 to 1878. We live in South Yorkshire unfortunately living so far away we will be unable to attend the Littleport Society meetings on a regular basis but we hope to drop in from time to time.

I have recently been in touch with Richard Palmer (ex-teacher) and he told me about the web-page). Congratulations on creating a great site about Littleport and the College. I taught mathematics at the College from 1974 until 1980. I am now teaching just north of Portmouth in a school of 1000. I still have many fond memories of Littleport and the College. My very best wishes to all pupils I taught.

Lived in Littleport from 1974-1976. My father was in USAF stationed at Lakeneath. I was 11-13 yrs old at the time. I loved it! I have very fond memories of the town and how friendly people were. We lived in Meadow Court. There were a few other yanks about, but not too many. I remember going through the cemetary and being amazed at how old some of the stones were. I used to like to go to the pet shop and bought a couple of budgies and a tortoise there. We lived across a field from the lovely Murfitt house. I remember seeing Murfitt Lorries everywhere. I also remember going swimming in a pool somewhere and kids being friendly to my brother and I. We always had to take the buses to RAFs Lakenheath and Feltwell for school, but I always looked forward to coming back to L'port at the end of the day. Mo

My grandfather put together a Strawson genealogy, and we are descended from Joseph Britton Strawson, a son of William Strawson and Susannah Thew, who emigrated from Lincolnshire to the United States in the 1800's. I have a fourth cousin in England who is also descended from William and Susannah, and who is active in genealogy. Her name is Sarah Reay. Hi, Adam ,it was great to find your site and see so many pictures of the the town where I grew up. We arrived in 1975 and left in 85 when I finished at LVC. I was in Fonteyn and looking at your program for Awards day I recognised famous names from my year: Adrian Crane, Marie Butcher and Stephen Garwood. It's very refreshing at the start of the week in my design office (here in Amersham, Bucks.) to look back at the pictures and names and revel in a flood of happy memories...right, time for a cuppa.

One thing that is worrying me now is that I was told by someone living in Ely that people in the area don't except people from Essex and London and could make my children and my life difficult, please don't tell me this is true, be such a shame ; as I am so looking forward to moving to the area, would'nt like anything to spoil it.         I'm sure you won't have any problem. I am in Dunmow, Essex--We have a 'Family Bible' started in about 1750 and filled in by each oldest son down to me. The original ancestor was Samuel Wolfe (woolf?) from Audley Cheshire supposedly born about 1730. He is on the 'Mormon' data of unknown parents at 1732? We just cannot trace his birth but have found two other Samuels born 1727 and 8 but cannot trace their subsequent lives. Where do we go from here? Thanks in anticipation David Wolfe

hello friends and strangers, this is a wonderful website, the vast number of people that visit here form all over the world amazes me.My wife, myself and two young girls emigrated to the USA in november 1985.We are now living in jacksonville Florida and have been here since march 1990.I would like to say hello to all my family, both in littleport and the surounding areas and to Silvia who lives in Australia.Thankyou for giving us a reminder of where we came from and a magical place for strangers to visitand wonder at our very important links with history.I remember tales of hereward the wake and queen boadicea but more recently the amazing revelation that I may related to the Harley davidson family through my mothers side. Her mother was a Harley and related to Isaac who was hung for his role in the Littleport riots

Our darling little Staffordshire terrier , Lucy has been diagnosed with cancer. Although she is receiving the best medical care  I am a great believer in the power of prayer  and want as many peope as possible to join in praying for her speedy recovery. Although she has been with us less than a year she has made a big impact on our lives. A web site has been set up for her www. geocities.com/acandleforlucy

tson was married to the daughter of Robert Cheeseright, Mary. I am checking this record again. The Watson operated the Globe Inn for awhile. They also owned other land. Thery were also on the Fleet Jury, whatever that is. I have found the Website for Littleport. I saw the picture of the former Blove Inn where the riots occurred. I saw that someone was hung for stealing from Robert cheeseright. I want to thank , is it Adam, for putting this wonderful website on the internet. I and a cousin are coming to London, England 10th of June. We plan to take the train to littleport to see for ourselves where our relative came from. We will be most anxious to see the building where the Globe once stood. I have a map, but the printing is so small, I am havingtrouble reading it. Do you know where I can

My husband's family are the Forestville, NY descendants of Edward Summerlee who emigrated from Littleport in 1897. The Summerlees all seem to have lived along Victoria Street. Relatives left in Littleport included the Summerlees who had an advertisement in the 1927 almanac for their machinist business. (Elijah and James?). Any Summerlees still in the area?
