June 1981. I think this picture was taken at the Paradise pool in Ely when it opened, it may be of the Lifesaving Club. It is not Littleport's pool as ours was an outdoor pool. |
Houses - extracted from the prospectus
There are four houses within the school namely Chichester, Bannister, Armstrong and Fonteyn. In the first year, pupils are divided into four house-based groups and remain in these groups as forms throughout their school career. Each house meets weekly for Assembly. We have a full programme of house competitions and a system of House Points for good academic work.

There were four shields on the wall in the main hall, each one had a stripe of the house colour on it. They were hung up in order depending upon the total of the house points for the week, with the house with the most points at the top.

The Schools First Computer |
Littleport Village College won its first computer in a
National Competition amongst schools set by the Government's Department of Industry.
The computer was a 380Z? and was described as a 'powerful and valuable micro computer
system'. |
Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme |
| Pupils and parents at the first meeting of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. Some of these young people went on to achieve the gold award which is presented by a member of the Royal Family. Picture taken 29th April 1981. |
School Play |
| Every school puts on dramatic productions and the village college was no different. In 1980 they performed "Around the World in 80 Minutes" and in 1981 there were two productions - "Samson and Delilah" and "Ernie's Incredible Illucinations". The picture above shows Alison Warren and Mark Scott in the lead roles of Samson and Delilah with other members of the production behind them. |
Sports |
| The school provided a range of sports to its pupils with a gymnasium, swimming pool, games pitches, all weather cricket nets, tennis courts, grass athletic track and the use of a near-by squash court. The picture above shows Chris Easy winning the junior 400 meters in the county sports competition in 1981. |
A past pupil of the college, Anthony McCracken, has sent me some scans of the 1983 awards evening programme. On it are lots of names from his leaving year and some from the younger years.
Click on each page to see it larger, you may see some names you reconize!
