I am trying to trace a SMITH family born in Littleport. Emma married John MIDLANE in 1872
and was born in Littleport approx 1851, her parents being Frederick SMITH & Eliza. I
can find them in the 1861 census in Hornsey, Mdx but I cant find any trace of them
in 1851 or 1841 nor can I find a marriage of Fredk to Eliza. There were four children in
1861, Ean (?) b c1849, Emma b c1851, William b c1855 and George b c1857, all stated as
Littleport.
I assume their birth/marriage regns would have been at Ely but again the SMITH regns there dont quite seem to tally with their ages in 1861. Any help will be greatly appreciated. You can find what I know of the Smiths/Midlanes etc at www.ennever.com . Thank you.

I am interested in the FRANCIS family of Littleport and all related surnames by marriage
including - BUTCHER, STANNARD, CLINGO, BOOTY, SHINGLES, EDWARDS, POPE & PEARS
I am descended from Jane FRANCIS, illegitmate d/o Isaiah FRANCIS & Ann KENT (a married woman who was living with Isaiah in Littleport on 1841 census as his housekeeper) born in 1840 Denver Norfolk. She is my 3xgrt g/mother. Jane FRANCIS married George ROSSINGTON in 1864 Newington St Mary Surrey before embarking for Australia soon after.
Isaiah was the son of William FRANCIS & Jane BUTCHER and was married twice (Alice STANNARD & Dinah JOHNSON, widow) before taking up with Ann.
Ann (according to her death certificate) was the wife of a William KENT and possibly the Ann CLARK who married a William KENT in Wimbotsham Norfolk 1835. Sadly, Ann died in 1843 Littleport.
It is possible that William FRANCIS was born in Kempsey Worcestershire to Samuel FRANCIS & Elizabeth MARKS who also had 2 other children born there then possibly moving to Littleport where other children were born.

I am tracing my husbands ancestors. His great grandfather was George GIFFORD born 1843 in
Littleport. We know George's father was John. George immigrates to Richmond Virginia in
March 1865 at the end of the war of norther aggression (civil war 1861-april 1865) to a
city that was literally almost in ruins and the people were starving and the yankee was
occupying the city. For the life of me I can't see why George would want to come here in
these conditions.
I find him in the 1870 census here living with a family named HARTLEY who appears to also have been from England. In 1871 George marries a Sarah Ellen MARTIN, the daughter of Ablsolum MARTIN and Ellen Hart MARTIN who were both born in England.
Please is there anyone out there that can help me with this family? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have researched my wife's family for a number of years now and have found one

had thre children one of whom was my wife's grandmother Florence. Unfortunately there are
two William COATES born in Littleport or environs at approximately the same time and i am
not sure whom is whom. Perhaps you could put me in contact with this information. I must
say that, though we have never been to Littleport we have become quite attatched to the

our working lives allow. One further question. Has anyone heard of the surname GOTOBED? Is

any possible relatives? We also found that the Washington cottage on Mill Pit Furlong was
