U13’s Match report 4th May

Sutton United 4 : Carshalton Rangers 1

Not the most exciting game Sutton have played this season but it was a job well done & another step nearer to claiming the league title, Sutton knew that if they won today they would take the number one place on goal difference so this made them a little nervous.

Sutton had the majority of chances during the game with their keeper Joe Reid being given very little to do in the first half.  Sutton’s first attempt came from a free kick given for handball taken by Alex Wilton, this was passed over to Ciaran Barton but the Carshalton defenders closed Ciaran down.  Carshalton made a break through but Mitchell Hayes stopped the ball, passed it back to Alex Wilton who in turn sent it up the field to Daniel Allen, Daniel was not in a position to score therefore he found the feet of Robert Hendry, Robert took the shot but the ball skimmed the outside of the goal.  The next run came from a good through ball by Jack Kelly to Chris Davies, Chris crossed to Jof Jauneau, Jof could not get the shot so passed back to Chris who was forced off for a corner.  Chris took the corner & as the ball curved it looked as though it was going in but it fell short & hit the corner post – this was a nice try by Chris & it would have been a great goal.  Carshalton won possession when the ball came back out and it was good defending by Joe Dinnage that stopped them getting through, he dispossessed their striker of the ball then sent it back up the field to Jof, Jof found Robert’s feet and this time it was the Carshalton keeper who stopped him from scoring with an excellent save.  Again Carshalton won possession, this time it was Louis Samuel that stopped them to ensure Joe Reid had nothing to do during this half.  Sutton regained possession and with some excellent passing between Ciaran & Daniel the ball was crossed over to Robert but again Robert was unlucky with his shot.  Carshalton had a run unchecked up the wing, Mitchell Hayes stepped over to dispossess the player & cleared the ball to Chris Davies but again Sutton were off target.  Carshalton had their first real shot of the game just before half time but the ball went into the side netting.  This fired Sutton up thinking that they could have gone a goal down & they created several chances but each time were unlucky with shots going wide or saved by the Carshalton keeper.  The halftime whistle blew at 0-0.

Into the second half and Sutton seemed a bit more alert, Chris Davies & Daniel Allen kicked off the first attempt for Sutton which was cleared by Carshalton.  When the ball came back out Robert Hendry stopped it & crossed over to Jof but his shot was just wide.   Sutton knew that the more shots they took at some point their luck would turn & one would go in and this was proven after several more attempts were saved or stopped by Carshalton.  Alex Wilton cleared a great ball up the field to Jof Jauneau; Jof turned saw the goal and shot home Sutton’s first goal.  At last the spell was broken.  Mitchell Hayes took a goal kick for Sutton, which went to Daniel Allen, Daniel crossed to Jof who in turn passed to Robert, the Carshalton defenders tried valiantly to stop Robert from getting through but he did a little fancy footwork and passed by them and this time was bang on target to net Sutton’s second.   Carshalton broke through to score a good goal shortly afterwards which came from a throw-in.  Carshalton battled to get through Sutton’s back line but Louis, Mitchell, Joe & Alex were not going to allow another ball through & stood their ground, and they knew with Joe Reid behind them that Carshalton’s chances of scoring again would be slim. Sutton continued to push forwards and Jof Jauneau soon made it 3-1.  Jack Kelly & Daniel Allen ensured that the ball was kept forward and after some good passing between Ciaran, Robert & Chris again Jof picked up the ball, today was his lucky day & the ball hit the back of the net for his hat-trick.  Although there was little time left Sutton continued to push forward, attempts by Ciaran, Chris & Robert were all stopped – Carshalton had defended well today as they had stopped Sutton scoring on several occasions.  The final whistle blew at 4-1 taking Sutton to the top of the league by a goal difference of 3.  They know that everything rests on their final game next week and are looking forward to playing the final game that will seal their fate.
