Under 13 (Epsom & Ewell youth League Div 1.)
Surrey County Cup 3rd
Round Wimbledon Juniors 1 : Sutton United 4 This was the
colt’s first match played since 15th December & they were
ready to get back to the game. Both
teams had a lively start with Wimbledon taking the first chance of the game,
luckily for Sutton the ball stuck in the mud in the goal-mouth which stopped
Wimbledon taking the lead. This near
miss gave Sutton a wake up call & they then began to push forward. Attempts by Nathan Richards, Joe Dinnage
& Robert Hendry came to no avail.
A free kick awarded to Chris Davis caused a mad scramble in the area,
which again proved unfruitful.
Sutton’s perseverance paid off with a cross by Jack Kelly to Robert
Hendry who neatly slotted the ball home for Sutton’s first goal. Wimbledon got straight back into the game
& came close to scoring from a corner but the ball flew over the
net. Into the second half and
Wimbledon came at Sutton with all guns blazing, Joe Reid the Sutton Keeper
was on his toes though & stopped Wimbledon from equalising. A Greg Tomkins ball for Sutton flew wide
of the goal and Robert Hendry suffered the same fate as Wimbledon in the
first half when his ball stuck in the mud on the touchline & didn’t cross
the line. Robert Hendry kept pushing
forward and his hard work paid off when he scored his second goal. Wimbledon immediately came back &
scored themselves to make it 2-1.
Sutton’s stamina & determination began to kick in and Robert
Hendry passed to Chris Davis who had an open goal in front of him, he
couldn’t miss & scored Sutton’s
third. A nice run up the wing by
Ciaran Barton, a great ball across to Robert Hendry allowed Hat trick Rob to
get his third of the game. 4-1 to
Sutton & with little time left Wimbledon could not get back into the
game. Sutton’s defence as usual glued
together & did an excellent job to stop Wimbledon getting through. A final score that gave the impression
that it was a walkover by Sutton but watching the game it was not the case,
Wimbledon played well & it was an
equally balanced game with both teams getting their fair share of the
action. Man of the Match was awarded
to Louis Samuel. |

Sutton United 4 : Oakway F.C. 2 Following a delay to the K.O. due to weather
conditions the match got underway with Sutton taking the lead with a goal
from George Constand, Oakway equalised before half -time with a well taken
shot from outside the area, Oakway then took the lead in the second half with
a headed goal from a corner. Sutton showed character by winning the game
showing determination, teamwork and a well-crafted hat trick from Aaron
Gardner. A good display from the defence and midfield and especially by
Goal-keeper Ahmed Al-maajoun also contributed to Sutton's performance. |
