Surrey Senior Cup 1st Round
Sutton United 6
Ash United 1
Naseem Akrour scored four times as Sutton cruised safely through to the next round of the Surrey Senior Cup with a win that was comfortable in the end, Sutton's superior fitness and skill telling more as the game went on. However in a open an entertaining game Ash never gave up and through the pacy Scott Joyce they gave Sutton some problems especially in the first half.
Dave Everitt opened the scoring with a fine individual effort after nineteen minutes when he glided past two defenders and lifted his shot over the keeper from an acute angle. Ash equalised after twenty seven minutes through Scott Joyce but just five minutes later Sutton were back in front when Akrour got his first of the night having been put through by John Ugbah. Les Cleevely did have to make two sharp saves before half time to preserve Sutton's half time advantage.
Sutton brought Gavin Harrison on shortly after half time for his first senior appearance in place of Sean Daly. Matt Hanlan had a hand in Sutton's third goal ten minutes into the second half when he outstripped the defence and had his shot well saved by Nick Burton in the Ash goal but the ball ran loose to Akrour who pushed in the rebound. Andy Salako was unfortunate after fifteen minutes when after a fine individual run he hit a post but the fourth was not long in coming, Akrour getting his hat-trick, shooting in from ten yards although it was courtesy of a bad mistake by Burton who had it covered but allowed it to go under his body.
Sutton were now totally in command and Andy Salako made it five with fifteen minutes to go and Akrour rounded it off with his fourth five minutes from time when he headed in a John Ugbah cross.
The Sutton side was: Les Cleevely, Danny Brooker, Barry Laker, Clive Gartell, Sean Daly, James Virgo, Sean Daly, David Everitt, Matt Hanlan, Naseem Akrour and Andy Salako.
Danny Stassinos replaced Clive Gartell. Gavin Harrison replaced Sean Daly and Gwynne Berry was the unused Sub.
Sutton now turn their attention back to the league when they entertain a fast improving Aylesbury side at Gander Green Lane on Saturday kick off 3pm.
