BILLERICAY TOWN (0) 1 Brewer 84 mins.

SUTTON UNITED (1) 2 Riley 24, Akrour 52mins.

Sutton dominated this game from start to finish and thoroughly deserved their victory only giving their fans a few anxious moments late on when the home side scored with possibly their only shot on target in the whole game.

John Rains picked the same side that fought so hard at St. Alban's on Monday with the one change being on the bench where Barry Blackman came in for Azeez Akinbolu. They made a fast start with Mark Watson, my man of the match, forcing a great save out of Dave Root at the foot of his left post and from the resulting corner Nassim Akrour blasted over a half volley after Watson had flicked the ball on at the front post.

Steve Watson had a goalbound shot deflected wide after twenty minutes but from the resulting corner Sutton took the lead. Another flick on was met at the back post by Andy Riley who headed into an empty net with the goalkeeper stranded for his third goal of the season.

Two minutes later Billy Goldstone was grateful to clear a Watson cross from under his own bar but despite having most of the possession Sutton were unable to add to their lead. The only other moment of note was a booking midway through the half for Richard Skelly for a foul.

Sutton may have feared an onslaught from the home side early in the second half but it didn't materialise and it was they who came out and for half an hour played their best football of the season so far. Eight minutes gone and Andy Salako cut in from the right and hit a fierce shot that Root parried but Nassim Akrour following up could hardly miss and he buried the rebound.

There followed an amazing piece of play where first Mark Watson hit the bar with the defence nowhere and then a good through ball by John Ugbah set Nassim Akrour free but his shot hit the post and bounced to safety with the striker hardly able to believe his luck. It was all Sutton now and Root was forced into another good save from Watson before the keeper was then beaten by an Ekoku shot which also unfortunately passed the post.

Billericay made some changes Mark Brewer came on for Chris Payne and Paul Battram took Martin StHilaire's place and Sutton were forced to make a substitution Barry Laker coming on for Andy Riley. Junior Haynes also replaced Nko Ekoku with ten minutes to go. Sutton at this stage were cruising to victory but with almost their first chance of the half Mark Brewer volleyed a right foot shot beyond Gareth Howells outstretched left hand with five minutes to go and gave Sutton's travelling support a few anxious minutes but they held on fairly comfortably.

The Sutton line up was:

Gareth Howells, Danny Brooker, Andy Riley (Laker), Gwynne Berry, Richard Skelly, Steve Watson, John Ugbah, Andy Salako, Nassim Akrour, Mark Watson and Nko Ekoku (Haynes).

Barry Blackman was the unused Sub.

Billericay Town line up was:

Dave Root, Billy Goldstone, Craig Davidson, Darren White, Gary Waters, Martin StHilaire (Battram), John Ridout, Dean Parratt, Leon Gutzmore, David Adekola and Chris Payne (Brewer)

Chris Moore was the unused sub.

This win moves Sutton up into ninth place with four points. Aylesbury are top with a 100% record from three games. Basingstoke condemned Heybridge Swifts to bottom place with an amazing 9-3 win away from home. Sutton now look forward to a home game against Hendon on Tuesday evening, kick off 7.30pm.
