It seems unfair to those of you who missed this game to make you suffer any description of the action, but I will. Things started positively for Sutton, Sammy Winston scoring in the 4th minute so early in fact that I hadn't taken up my position and missed the build up. From then on it was down hill. A very neat flick on by Newhouse put Skelly through but the final shot is best described as a defenders shot. Jimmy Dack was fouled by Chris Duffy on the edge of the area earning the Canvey player a yellow card. Canvey showed plenty of endeavour but little else. They had a fair number of long range shots on the Sutton goal , starting out high and wide but gradually getting more accurate as the half progressed. None however tested the keeper.
The second half was as bad as the first. Canvey again showing the effort that Sutton lacked without really worrying Sutton. The Canvey number eight committed a foul , again , on Dack .Canvey seemed surprised that two bookable offences equalled a sending off and surrounded the ref to no avail. The game moved closer to the Canvey goal area due to the man advantage, but it wasn't until Watson and Ekoku came on for Skelly and Newhouse that any spark came into Sutton's play. Winston had a good shot well saved by the keeper and Harlow pulled a ball back for Dack to rifle a shot, again saved by the keeper. With 15 minutes to go Canvey thought they had equalised following a corner ,but the referee spotted an infringement and ruled it out. A poor game but Sutton have progressed through to the 4th round.

Thanks to Mervyn for pointing out that it was Chris Duffy and not David Crowley who was sent off. My apologies for the error.
