A superb defensive display earned Sutton an unlikely point against Kingstonian. The Us limited the Ks to very few clear cut chances but it was an uncharacteristic defensive mix up which gave the visitors the lead. Jimmy Dack and Gwynne Berry got their wires crossed and allowed Wingfield to slip through (16 min). From the other end it appeared that Wingfield slotted past Howells but the goal has been put down to a Barry Laker og. Kingstonian had most of the possession but the better chances fell to Sutton. A one two between Ekoku and Harford lead to Harfords shot being well stopped by Farrelly. and Jimmy Dack blasted over following good work by Winston out wide. Ekoku took an injury in the 29 minute and was replaced by Watson. Kingstonian went in at half time good value for their 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Sears on for Mackie. It appeared all over for Sutton in the 65 minute, Akuamoah cut in from Sutton left and fired in a shot which was deflected in by Berry. Sutton looked very unlikely to score and it was with a bit of luck that Dack got one back. A long range shot took a deflection and lifted over the keeper. Sutton now rallied , Berry went off for Forrester who's game lasted just 7 minutes. A good looping header from Forrester went just over, but then a flare up in the mid field resulted , after long discussion between ref and linesmen, in Forrester being sent off. Never a dirty game , the altercation was completely against the spirit of the game. Down to 10 men it seemed that Sutton would lose out to the Ks in a league match for the first time in a long while. However the never say die attitude of the team paid dividends ,as a free kick was headed in by Winston in the 89th minute. Another eventful and entertaining Sutton Kingstonian derby.
