Nationwide Conference

ATT 805

2 Northwich Victoria v Sutton United 0

Sutton had to win and hope Woking lost their game against top of the table Kidderminster in order to maintain Conference football for anther week, unfortunately Sutton couldn't manage a win and Kidderminster some how lost to Woking to seal Sutton's return to Ryman league football.

The first half of this game was very even with both sides making little chances but sharing midfield possession. On the half-hour mark the game opened up for a brief spell when both teams went close to scoring. Richard Skelly won the ball in midfield and crossed the ball into the area for Danny Brooker who then managed to get the ball to Paul Harford, Paul cracked a shot at goal but the shot was deflected over the bar for a United corner. Dave Harlow took the corner , the ball was met by Darren Broderick who flicked the ball back toward goal and over the keeper but the ball was cleared off the line by the defence. The clearance fell to Darren Vicary who took the ball and ran into the United area and put in a low cross into the box which beat every Sutton defender but also missed all the Northwich forwards as well. Five minutes later Northwich won a free kick on the edge of the area, the ball was floated into the box for Mark Devlin to rise up above the U's defence and head the ball just wide of the target.

The second half started badly for Sutton, as just after five minutes Ian Cook was able to get a header on to a cross and direct it into the bottom right hand corner to start Sutton descent to the Rymans. After that goal Sutton started to fall apart and in the sixty eighth minute Vicary ran the length of the pitch as he had been doing all day with get success. Vicary was able to get a cross into the area and Val Owen who was able to strike a fantastic volley into the top right corner of the United net. With five minutes to go Aiden Newhouse found the ball at his feet and shot at goal only to see his shot rebound off the cross bar. Any one who was involved with Sutton now knew the fate of the club, as United showed no signs of even having another shot on let alone getting three goals. At the end of the game The score line didn't matter as Woking had won against the Nationwide Conference Champions Kidderminster.
