It was honours even for this match in a game that neither side really produced any sort of flowing football. Sutton had the better of the early exchanges but it was Northwhich who went ahead. A corner in from Sutton's right saw Howells make an uncharacteristic flap at the ball instead of a clean punch and inadvertantly guided the ball into his own net. Buoyed up by this ,Northwhich took a a firmer grip on the game. They didn't have it their own way though, as Skelly came close with a thundering shot just before half time, that Key just managed to tip over. Ekoku also had a fine shot stopped by the keeper.
The second half saw Sutton huffing and puffing but not really looking like scoring ,however that changed on the 55th minute. Good work by Skelly saw the ball come across and a bit of goal mouth pinball ensued. At one point a defender handled ,but the rebound fell to Watson who steered the ball in. Sutton looked more comfortable by then and although they were'nt exactly pushing forward in numbers they did have the slight edge. They took the lead on the 73rd minute from a corner. A classic 'text book' header from Laker crashed in to the back of the net and Sutton were 2-1 up. For five minutes it looked like the Us would take the points, but totally against the run of play the mid-field opened up for the Vics and Owen unleashed an unstoppable shot for the best goal of the game. Once again Northwhich took heart from the goal and finished stronger.
