Sutton had to cope with the loss of Nko Ekoku after 26 minutes following a boisterous challenge by Roger Preece. Preece fortuneate not to be given more than a yellow card. Sutton effectively lost this game when Gary Martindale converted a penalty after Matthew Broderick brought down Steve Palmer. Shortly after Howells was again at his best pushing over an effort from Jake Edwards. An offside flag prevented the home side going in 2-0 up. Martindale denied his second.

The second half again had Telford in the ascendancy. Sutton's most noteable effort coming from a free kick by Dave Harlow. Telford got their second after 69 minutes , Martindale heading on McGorry's cross.
