Ryman Premier Division

1 Aldershot Town VS Sutton United 1

ATT 2547

Sutton’s return to the Ryman premier didn’t get off to the best start at The Recreation Ground with a below par performance. The game never really got to a good flowing pace with both teams lacking in finishing off their chances.

The first half was an evenly fought game with Aldershot just coming out on top. Although it was United who had the first few shots and almost took the lead. The first chance came on seventeen minutes when Sutton new comer Danny Bolt received the ball on the edge of the Aldershot area and struck a long range shot that just curled over the bar. Five minutes later Bolt had another shot cleared off the line after some good work from Joe Nartey. It was Aldershot who took the lead four minutes later when Lee Protheroe took a long range shot well out wide the Sutton area beating Howells who was slightly off his line. The first half ended with Aldershot gaining more possession and were unlucky that their finishing wasn’t as good as their approach play. Sutton defended well managing to deal with any attacking play.

For most of the second half the game still lacked any real excitement. Both teams couldn’t break down the other’s defence. This meant that both sides were forced to take their chances from long range which the teams came close with. It was Danny Bolt again with Uniteds chance as his shot was well saved by Andy Pape. Ben Abby then weaved in and out of the United defence before shooting inches wide of the target. Uniteds equaliser came in the thirty second minute when Ryan Gray’s long ball was knocked down by Paul Sears to Bolt who put in a low cross into the area which fell to Salako who was able to find the net.
