FA Cup Second Qualifying Round

0 Littlehampton Town  v   Sutton United 5

Littlehampton could have taken the lead inside the opening five minutes when Llyod crossed for Templeton but he miss timed his shot and the defence was able to clear. Ten minutes later a reckless challenge on Paul Sears inside the area, which left him down for a few minutes with only a free kick for his pain. The free kick was taken by Harlow and well saved by the keeper. On twenty-four minutes a long range shot from Scott Forrester was well saved by Byatt. On the half-hour some good play by Forrester unleashed Paul Sears down the left but he sliced his cross which nearly ended up in the back of the net. Some Sutton fans were disappointed that United hadn't broken through despite all the possession they had.

The second half was a different story with Sutton taking most of their chances starting just twenty seconds into the half. Thompson took the ball from kick off and ran to the edge of the area and chipped the ball over the top of the defence for Forrester to control and hit past the keeper for Sutton's first goal. The second came two minutes later when a corner from Harlow was headed across the goal by Boothe for Thompson to head home. Minute's later Paul Harford ran to the bi line and cross in low for Forrester to see his shot deflected wide. With twenty minutes left Harlow's corner was knocked on by Thompson and the diving header was hit just wide of the post by sears. Three minutes later Scott ran on to a through ball and tried to knock the ball over the defenders but both the ref and linesman spotted a handball and a penalty was awarded. Danny Bolt stepped up and placed the ball passed the keeper with his first touch since coming on as a sub. With fifteen minutes to go , Paul Harford was able to play Dave Harlow into the area, Harlow was able to beat one defender before curling a shot past keeper but it rebounded off the post. On eighty two minutes Littlehampton's number fourteen broke through the United defence but sliced his shot wide of the target. With a minute to go Danny Bolt's corner to the far post which was headed home to make the score four nil. In the ninetieth minute Thompson ran toward the bi line and crossed the ball to Forrester whose shot was deflected wide. Danny Bolt took the corner and the ball was fantastically volleyed home by Thompson.

Sutton had the better of the possession through out the game but the score could have been more if Sutton had finished better in the first half. Littlehampton did well to go in at half time with the score level and could have changed the out come if they had managed to put away the early chance.
