1 Sutton United v Enfield 1
by David Parker
Sutton will look back on this game and wonder how they didn't win for the majority of the game Sutton were the better side and it was from basic mistakes that allowed Enfield back in the game.
United had a great chance in the opening ten minutes when Boothe received the ball on the edge of the area and beat one player before seeing his shot well saved by the keeper. Almost straight away Sutton could have gone a goal down when a bad clearance by Mison fell to Georgiou whose shot beat Martini but was cleared off the line by Ryan Palmer. United came close on eighteen minutes when John Palmers cross was headed down by Haworth to Murray whose shot beat the advancing keeper but came back off the post. United did take the lead two minutes later when a thru ball from midfield fell to Akuamoah whose first touch left him down and allowed the keeper to close in on the ball. Akuamoahs shot was deflected into the path of Jade Murray who slipped the ball into the empty net. Minutes before half time Akuamoah could have extended the lead when he ran thru the defence and had just the keeper to beat but the keeper was able to get down and save the shot.
With five minutes gone in the second half United found themselves pulled back to level terms by Enfield when Mison gave the ball to Martini. Martini seemed to invite the Enfield striker toward him and then tried to played the ball back to Mison but his weak pass was intercepted by the Enfield front man and Georgiou was able to put the ball in an empty net. With twenty minutes to go Sutton were given the chance to get the lead back when Fowlers shot was parried away by the keeper, Murray controlled the rebound and was shaping up to shoot when the keeper brought him down. Chris Boothe stepped up to take the penalty kick but saw his shot saved by the legs of the keeper. United almost scored a last minute winner when Taylors long throw was missed by the keeper and Haworths header was cleared off the line.
Uniteds missed chances cost them the game as well as the valuable three points. United are now the only team in the division not to have won a game.
