Ryman Premier League
1 Sutton United v Harrow Borough 1
ATT 440
An game in which both sides failed to find an inventive spark to lift the game from the boring display on show on Tuesday night.
Sutton had the better of the first half and should have gone in with a better score line. It took fifteen minutes for either side to get a chance on goal and it was also Suttons opening goal. Danny Brooker curled a free kick into the area for Michael Mison to climb above the keeper and head home. Sutton could have increased their lead ten minutes later when Akuamoah intercepted a clearance and slipped the ball to Fowler whose cross into the area was met by an athletic diving header by Jon Palmer but he couldn't keep his shot down and the ball flew over the bar. On the half hour mark Pat Gavin went down inside the area under the slightest of challenges from Mison, the penalty was converted with Hurlock sending Martini the wrong way. Two minutes later Valenti's curling shot found it's way thru a crowd of players and straight to Martini. Minutes before half time United should have been two up if not for the linesman's flag. Martinis free kick fell to Haworth who knocked the ball down to the on side Akuamoah who poked the ball around the keeper and was able to slot home but the linesman's flag went up and the sides went in level.
Three minutes into the second half Sutton could have taken the lead when a well worked free kick between Brooker, Jon Palmer and Boothe allowed time for Palmer to strike at goal but his shot went just wide of the post. Sutton should have taken the lead when a ball over the top unleashed Ryan Palmer who took a shot from the edge of the area but his shot was straight at the keeper. Almost straight away Harrow could have gone in front when a quickly played ball up front fell to Par Gavin who shot from outside the area and saw his shot clawed away from the net by Martini.
In the closing stages both sides could have won the game. A bad pass by Mison lead to Gavin going thru one on one with Martini but blasted his shot over the bar. In injury time Akuamoah's run from midfield allowed him to cross into the path of Fowler who had no defenders around him with just the keeper to beat but he played his chance straight to the keeper.
Both teams will now to go into the weekend looking for their first wins of the season. Judging by this game we will need to improve to beat St Albans who have had a good start to their season.
