July 16Andreas Answers the CallCoventry Blaze ice hockey team are delighted to announce the signing of highly rated Swedish defenceman, Andreas Moborg. Having parted company with 3 of last seasons 5 defencemen, the Blaze needed to reinforce the Blueline for the coming season and Moborg is the man to provide the solidity. Moborg is a 25 year old, 6 ft tall defenceman originally hailing from Mantorp in Sweden. He attended the University of Vermont between 1997 and 2001 and was the top defenceman on their NCAA team in all four years. He launched his professional career last season with an immensely successful year with the Trenton Titans of the East Coast Hockey League. The Titans won their division of the League and Moborg was a vital member of their line-up, racking up an extremely impressive 6 goals and 20 assists in the regular season, and adding 2+3 in just 7 play off games. For a rookie defenceman in that league, these are highly impressive stats! Paul Thompson, Head Coach of the Blaze confirmed: "My job is to do as much research as possible on every player I sign and I can honestly say I did not hear one single negative response from any of his former coaches or GM's. "Andreas was a top defenceman in college and had a great 1st year in the pro's - many hockey people thought he should have played the whole season in the AHL. "I am really excited to have signed Andreas for the forthcoming season and he will prove to be one of the top defencemen in the league this term, as his mobility and vision will add another dimension to our roster." Operations Director, Grant Charman, added "Players like Andreas do not come along every day! Thommo has worked really hard to put together a package that would bring a talent like him to Coventry. He's a player that, by all accounts, could be a solid American Hockey League, or DEL player. That he has chosen to come to the Blaze is indicative of the professionalism and stability that we have worked so hard to achieve here in Coventry. I'm sure that he will be a vital member of our team next year and that he will be one of the players to watch in the FBNL!" |
