Owen Returns but Yardley Moves On

Returning to the "High and Mighty" Coventry Blaze line-up for the coming season will be the extremely popular young Welshman, Gareth Owen. The Blaze will however, be entering the season without promising youngster Shaun Yardley.

26 year old Owen played for the Blaze from 1996-2000, playing in over 170 games and scoring 68+63 to give 131 points. When the Blaze relocated to Coventry at the start of the 2000-01 season, Gareth moved down to the Isle of Wight where he has been playing for the last two seasons.

A career relocation to Coventry has given him the opportunity to link up again with Coach Paul Thompson, who was very happy to pick up an experienced forward like Owen.

"Gareth, or Gizmo to everyone that knows him, will give us everything he has got. He wanted to play BNL hockey again and I am more than happy to give him that opportunity as he adds more depth to our squad and is another 110% kind of player."

On the down side, promising Shaun Yardley has decided to leave the Blaze for personal reasons.
