 | The name of Whittington and Whittington Castle is derived from the
Welsh "Drev Wen" meaning White Town. The village was recorded in
the Doomesday Book as Whititone. This name is thought to have originated
because of the bloom of white flowers which flourished in the marshy area
around the Castle.
