Location

Whittington is a small rural community in Shropshire close to the market town of Oswestry. Whittington Castle sits in the centre of this lovely village.

Travelling to the Castle

By Car: Car Parking is available at the Castle.

By Train: The nearest station is Gobowen which is approx 2 miles from Whittington.

By Bus: Whittington is on route D70 which runs between Oswestry and Shrewsbury. Further details, including the timetable, can be found here.

Opening Times:

Whittington Castle Tea Room

A new tea room has been provided at Whittington Castle. Opening times are:

                Wednesday - Sunday        10am-4pm

Whittington Castle 

The Castle Gatehouse and Cottage is open for the sale of books and souvenirs and for access to displays and interpretation explaining the history of the Castle during the following times.

                Wednesday - Sunday        10am-4pm

Castle Grounds

There is free public open access to the Castle grounds all year round. Improved access has been provided as part of the restoration project. This includes a new Bridge, with disabled access, to the inner bailey. 

Charges

Access to the grounds of Whittington Castle is free.

Access to the Castle Gatehouse and Cottage is free on days when open to the public.

Users of the car park are required to pay a £1 car parking fee which is used to fund the maintenance of the restored Castle.

In the near future rooms will be available for hire for meetings or for civil weddings. Prices will be published shortly.

Guided tours of the Castle can be provided. Please contact the Trust for more details.

Accessibility

Significant improvements to access have been provided as part of the restoration project. Key features include:

A bridge to the inner bailey
Steps up to the top of the medieval garden's viewing mound
A lift to the first floor of the Castle Cottage is available. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
