The Bowens is a tastefully restored 17th Century Country House set in two acres of immaculate gardens peacefully situated opposite the Church on the edge of the village of Fownhope. Mid-way between the city of Hereford and the market town of Ross-on-Wye and in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the Hotel is an ideal location for touring, walking and exploring the rolling, wooded countryside of Herefordshire.
The Hotel is beside the B4224 which provides easy access to the A40 and M50 leading to the Welsh Borders, the Malvern Hills, the Cotswolds, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. The area is famous for its outdoor activities, and Golf, riding, canoeing, fishing and horse riding are all available within easy reach of the Hotel which is happy to provide information and literature on these activities.
The Bowens has ten well appointed bedrooms all fully en-suite, six in the main house and four ground-floor courtyard rooms (two of which are suitable for wheelchairs), all rooms have TV, telephone, central heating and tea/coffee making facilities. The oak beamed lounge boasts an inglenook fireplace and the lovely gardens contain extensive shrub and flower borders and in the summer guests are welcome to use the putting green and grass tennis court.
The Restaurant is fully licenced and offers superb home cooked meals using local and home grown products. The meat comes from the village butcher and most of the fruit and vegetables come from the Hotel's own gardens. There is always a vegetarian option on the menu and special dietary needs can be met by prior arrangement. The Restaurant is open to non residents and private lunch and dinner parties can be catered for, up to 25 people.
Children are welcome and pets can be catered for by arrangement for a small extra charge. Dinner, bed and breakfast packages are available all year round. The Hotel accepts Access, Visa, Switch and Mastercard. Prices for B&B are from £39 per person per night with Single/Double/Twin/Family Rooms available.
