A fine Georgian house set in three-and-a-half acres of gardens, lawns and secluded woodlands, Pencraig Court Hotel enjoys an enviable position overlooking the River Wye, with unforgettable views across the Wye Valley to the Royal Forest of Dean and the distant hills. Situated between the market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth and just a few miles from Symonds Yat it's an ideal base for exploring this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Built in 1780 and first occupied by the Rev. W. Holt-Beever, it became the family home of Sir Humphrey de Trafford in 1876 and the family stayed in residence until the 1950’s. Today it's a Country House Hotel of character and elegance, as well as home to Liz and Malcolm Dobson the present proprietors, and their daughter Katie. It has been tastefully furnished to suit its era and contains many treasured pieces such as a Baby Grand Piano and a magnificent circular oak table in the dining room.
 Guests are assured of a warm welcome in an informal atmosphere, with traditional home-cooked food and good wines. Produce is sourced locally wherever possible and fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown in the orchard and the kitchen garden.
The large drawing room is home to the Baby Grand Piano which guests are encouraged to play and there is a log fire in the winter and French windows leading to the garden. The small Sitting Room has a television and the Dining Room which features the impressive circular oak table has superb views. There is Broadband connection throughout the hotel.
All bedrooms are en-suite, non-smoking, with televisions, tea and coffee, and hairdryers. There is one Four Poster Bedroom, with a bay window overlooking the River Wye and beyond. The Family Room has a double bed and single bed, with smaller pull-out bed for a smaller child and enough room for a travelling cot. There is also an enormous bathroom!
The beautiful surrounding countryside & local walks are ideal for exercising the dog, and guests with well behaved pets are welcome for a small extra charge. The area offers a wealth of outdoor activities nearby including golf, canoeing, climbing and abseiling, 4x4 off-road driving, cycling, quad bikes and clay pigeon shooting or you can enjoy a relaxing game of Croquet on the lawn of the Hotel if you prefer something a little less demanding.
