The Old Pump HouseThe Old Pump House

Self Catering holiday cottage.

High on the hillside overlooking the River Wye on the edge of the popular settlement of Symonds Yat West stands this impressive former pump house. With outstanding views across the Wye Valley and the Wye rapids the Old Pump House offers excellent self catering accommodation in this popular tourist area.

Symonds Yat is famous for its spectacular view points at Yat Rock and the peregrine falcons that nest on the cliffs. Just behind the Old Pump House is the footpath from Symonds Yat West to the Biblins. The route takes you through the narrow gorge of the Wye through Lord's Wood below the Doward, where it's possible to cross the River Wye on the suspension bridge and return to Symonds Yat East along the Wye Valley Walk. A hand powered ferry is available from the Saracens Head Inn but it's a good idea to check the operating times of the ferry before you set out.View of the Old Pump House.

The area is renowned for its outdoor activities with mountain biking, rock climbing and canoeing all available locally, canoes can be hired at Symonds Yat West and East and there's a public launch site at Kerne Bridge. There are several golf courses within easy reach of Symonds Yat, at Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth and the River Wye is famous for its coarse and game fishing. For the slightly less adventurous there are some wonderful walks, boat trips on the river and even a hedge maze to challenge and confuse the visitor.

The accommodation is of a high standard offering 2 bedrooms (1 twin and 1 double), a shower room with W.C., cloakroom, an open plan sitting room, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen including fridge with ice box, dishwasher and microwave. The patio doors lead to a large private garden overlooking the Wye rapids, with garden furniture and BBQ. Other facilities include satellite digital TV, video and DVD player, CD player and indoor games. The property also has underfloor heating, storage for bikes and parking for 2 cars. Dogs are welcome for a small extra charge.

The cottage is available all year round, including Christmas and New Year for short breaks (3 days at weekends, 4 days during the week) and weekly breaks from Friday to Friday.
