Wye Valley Cottage is a beautiful 2 bedroom holiday cottage in the picturesque valley of Symonds Yat. Quietly situated within a small modern mews development set in historic woodland, high above the River Wye, this cottage offers an excellent touring base for the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and Herefordshire. Just a five minute walk from the ferry which crosses the river to Symonds Yat East and the famous Yat Rock, there are delightful walks throughout the surrounding area with a selection of pubs and eating places close by. Ross on Wye and Monmouth are both just 6 miles away.

Symonds Yat has been renowned for its dramatic natural scenery throughout history, made famous by the 18th century romantics, its name derives from a 17th century sheriff of Herefordshire, Robert Symonds and yat being the local name for a gate or pass. The beautiful wooded valley overlooks the River Wye as it meanders from Ross-on-Wye to Monmouth. The River Wye has over the centuries cut a gorge through limestone cliffs 150 metres high with Symonds Yat East and West cosily nestled down in amongst the wooded slopes of the gorge.

Symonds Yat provides a home for many species of animals and plants. Particularly well known are the Peregrine Falcons which nest high up in the gorge and can be observed from Yat Rock. Wye Valley Scenery.The woods which clothe the cliffs and river banks are home to ancient oaks, limes and rare wild trees as well as ancient woodland plants such as bluebells, primroses and violets. This unique area of Britain with its ancient forests, incredible mix of rare birds and plants combined with stunning scenery makes it one of the most exciting walking locations in Europe.

You can enjoy a short gentle stroll along the flat river bank paths, as well as more challenging walks for the energetic adventurers amongst you. Walking maps are made available from within the cottage, however Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure 14 map: Wye Valley and Forest of Dean is probably the best tool for navigating the area on foot.

If you are looking for activity while on holiday then Symonds Yat is famous for its fishing, canoeing, climbing and walking. Be you a beginner or advanced you can find a sport to suit you in the valley. The Wye rapids are the only accessible Rapids of their kind in the south of England during the spring and summer and have been popular with canoeists since the 1950s. Wye Valley Cottage, Lounge.A range of canoeing activities are available from our friends at 'Wye Pursuits' who provide a service of the highest standard. Fishing permits are available from the tackle shops in Ross-on-Wye, and many other activities can be arranged locally.

Facilities at the cottage include, ground floor: Lounge with electric fire, Stereo/CD, video and payphone, dining room with archway to kitchen. Kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. First floor: 2 bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin, bathroom with shower spray, toilet & basin. Fully heated with all fuel and power included, bed linen (duvet covers, pillow cases) and towels included at an extra cost of £10 per room.

Small enclosed garden with furniture to rear. Shared use of garden with sloping terraces to front. Private parking. Non smokers only. Well behaved pets at a cost of £10 per dog. Local pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance.
