Plans have already been hatched for a big (well, big considering the size of the village) festival to take place in the second week of September 2001. Get out your diary now and block the week off. Here are the advance details. The festival will consist of a number of different events. Now we have a huge marquee, let's get using it . . . . .

Martin Stockley (Leaves of Time) will be putting on a musical production of Alice. If you are interested in being part of this production or helping out, then contact Martin on 488101.

Glenn Hart is organising a two day Art & Photographic Exhibition. If you think you would like to get some of your own work displayed, or know someone who really ought to share their creations with a wider audience, please contact Glenn on 488528.

Speen Antiques Day Speen has some accomplished antique afficianados in its midst. You may also be one of those owners of a particular Object d'Art who is unaware of its identity or value. Our very own Antiques Fieldshow will be an event to be talked about, and therefore to attend. Watch this space for more details or contact Pauline & David Flynn on 488510.

Gardens Open Also on Sunday 9th September, the Speen Horticultural Society is organising a Garden Open Day when four or five of the best local gardens will be open for visitors during the afternoon.

Jazz concerts in Speen have seen the Village Hall bulging at it's seams, and a growing queue of disappointed would-be attendees. Every event has been highly acclaimed and the session in the Marquee will feature our very own Martin Hart who will be presenting the George Gershwin Story. Grab the tickets as soon as they come out for this 'Jazz in a Marquee'.

Peter Symonds designed and produced our stylish Millennium sign, but here is an opportunity to look behind the sign and into the hedgerows, trees and ponds (and many other offbeat places) at the Natural History of Speen. Peter has a wonderful knack at presenting his information which is delightfully illustrated. Even if you have heard Peter before, this evening is still one not to be missed.

It is with great trepidation that this event is being contemplated at all! Most sane adults in the village are already campaiging to have this event banned, but assuming they do not get their way, then an exponent of the art of African Hand Drumming will be holding a workshop. Learn how to perform this incedibly noisy and rythmic music; an irritatingly compelling and demanding skill.

On the final Saturday a Gala Music Concert is being planned. This will be a great night out. Diners at the King William IV may well be tempted to try to sneak in after their meal, if you are one of them, just make sure you have a ticket.
