This is the view from Hill 62 with Ypres in the distance It's easy to see why both sides regarded this as a critical area to hold The fighting here was bitter

There are a number of memorials here including the one below which was used for target practice by German troops in the Second World War

During the Second World War two French POWs escaped from a prisoner train near here They were shot and killed as they fled and buried here
