John Killick was Private G/15940 in the Royal Sussex Regiment, 13th Battalion. John was born in Crawley and enlisted in Horsham as part of the British Expeditionary Force. He was killed in action on Thursday 26th October 1916 aged 35 while fighting in the Battle of the Somme. Like so many John has no grave but his name appears on the Thiepval Memorial. His name can be found on Pier and Face 7C. John was the son of Francis and Maria Killick and husband to Maud Killick of South View, County Oak, Crawley.
Arthur Laker was Private G/17994 in the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), Ist Battalion. He was formerly 6333 in the Sussex Regiment.Arthur was born in West Grinstead but lived and enlisted in Crawley. He was killed in action on Thursday 4th October 1917 aged 38. Arthur has no grave but his name can be found in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, 9km north west of Ypres. His name appears on Panel 106 and 108 which is in the north eastern boundary of the cemetery. Arthur was the son of Albert and Helen Laker of Oak Farm, Ifield Wood. He was also married to Alice Laker of 86, Camilla Road, Bermondsey, London.
Henry James Lincoln was Private G/19560 in the Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) Depot Battalion. He was born, lived and enlisted in Norwich. His name does not appear on the Ifield memorial but his grave is in the cemetery at St Margrets in Ifield. Henry was killed when he was run over by a bus on the London to Brghton road at Pease Pottage on 29th October 1916. He was 39 years old. His military history sheet shows that he served in the army for 9 years and 193 days. For two of those years Henry had served in South Africa. He was a labourer and lived with his wife Hannah at 7, All Saints Alley, Westlegate, Norwich. His death certificate shows that he was a Lance Corporal. He was buried on November 1916.
George Alfred Moore was Private 41851 in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), 26th Battalion. He was born in Fletching, lived in Crawley but enlisted in Horsham. George died of his wounds on 7th June 1917. He has no grave but his name appears on the Menin Gate in Ypres on Panel 6 and 8.
