Now a popular local restaurant,this blockhouse is the last of three such constructions that overlooked Plymouth Sound at Firestone Bay which is the most southerly point of the East Stonehouse peninsula.It is thought to be the earliest survivng fortification in the Plymouth area and is believed to have been built during the reign of Henry VIII in the 16th century.
There were,probably,up to half a dozen cannon on the roof of each tower and any potential invader would have to sail their ships past each of these three towers in turn at point blank range ..... something only a very brave or foolish captain would even contemplate.
