The Prysten House

Not too much is known about this building although it is believed to date from the late 14th century and might have been the residence of the vicar of  St.Andrew's.It is located just to the rear of the church in Finewell Street and rumour has it that there was once an underground passage between this house and the crypt under the chancel of St.Andrews although there is no real evidence to suggest that this 'passage' has ever actually existed. Behind the front facade, shown in the adjacent photo, lies a galleried courtyard in the monastic style.
Despite suffering bomb damage in WWII,it was restored in the late 1950s under the supervision of an architect by the name of A.S. Parker.
