Ringmer Village Plan: Consultation Phase

Ringmer Parish Council has been awarded a grant by the Countryside Agency to develop a Village Plan for Ringmer. This is intended to consult residents about their community and its facilities and lead to the development of an Action Plan that will inform higher authorities (e.g. the District & County Councils) in their fomulation of planning and other policies affecting the village. The process has three phases:

1. Consultation with village organisations to ensure that all important issues are identified.

2. A village opinion survey of each Ringmer household.

3. Developing, on the basis of the opinion survey, the Village Action Plan.

The process is in some ways similar to the Village Appraisal carried out by Ringmer Parish Council about 15 years ago, and I anticipate that we shall be asking at least some of the same questions, to establish how the village has changed in the intervening period. However, the Action Plan is a new element, and we (and the Countryside Agency) hope that this will be effective in ensuring that higher-level planning becomes more responsive to local needs and opinion.

We are now in the first (consultation) phase of the process, which we hope to complete within the next four weeks (so by mid-April). Below you will find a list of the five main topic areas that we anticipate the Village Plan may cover, together with a more detailed list of possible foci under each topic heading for inclusion in the questionnaire. The questionnaire for the next phase will seek to identify what proportion of village residents use each of the services or facilities about which we inquire, plus their opinion on various issues (mainly using a tick-the-box format).

We whould value the advice of any Ringmer resident or person whose workplace is in Ringmer on any aspect of the plan. In particular, do you think that there are important areas that we have missed, or are there specific questions that you would like to have asked in the questionnaire?
