Macintosh FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
How do I use FTP? FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is a protocol, or standard, used on the Internet for transferring files from one computer to another. There are two ways of using FTP on BTinternet: FTP via your Web browser With recent versions of Internet Explorer, you can download and upload files using the browser window. In the Location field (where you would normally type in Website addresses, type in the following: Stand-alone FTP program Alternatively, you can download a stand-alone FTP program from the Internet. The best FTP program for the Macintosh is called Fetch. How to upload (publish) your home page If you are using an FTP program to upload your Home Page to BTinternet, you will need to know the following details:
The HOST NAME is: ftp.btinternet.com Remember: You can use any (one) of your Multiple Mailbox names. The e-mail name chosen will form the URL, or Internet address, of your Website, so that if your chosen e-mail name is "joe.bloggs", your URL would be http://www.btinternet.com/~joe.bloggs/. Note that you should only enter the e-mail box name "joe.bloggs", not "joe.bloggs@btinternet.com". You must enter your e-mail name in lower case. The PASSWORD is your: e-mailbox password. Remember that it is case sensitive.
