How do I set up multiple mailboxes on my Macintosh?

Before you can set up additional mailboxes, you must create them on BTinternet. To create additional mailboxes, go to the Multiple Mailboxes page.

Once you have created additional mailboxes, Internet Mail and News for Macintosh allows you to log on using any of your five e-mail addresses.

To set up multiple users:

  1. Open Internet Mail and News.
  2. From the Edit menu, select Switch User.
  3. Click New.
  4. Type in a name for the new user and click OK.
This creates a user folder for the new user, and Internet Mail and News switches to this folder.
  5. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  6. Click the Mail Server tab, then enter the mail server information for this user.
    •  The SMTP Host Name is mail.btinternet.com.
The POP Account is your chosen e-mail name plus @mail.btinternet.com
      e.g john.smith@mail.btinternet.com.
The POP Password is the password which you chose when creating this e-mail address.

  7. If you want the user to enter a POP password, select Ask For Password On Startup.
  8. Click the News Server tab, then enter the news server information for this user.
(The BTinternet news server is called news.btinternet.com)
  9. Click OK.

Once multiple users are set up, the Switch User dialog box appears when the application is started, and the user must choose his or her name from the list. If the user selected has the password preference on, a Password dialog box appears and the POP password must be typed in before proceeding.

When you create a new user, a folder with the user's name is added to the IMN User(s) folder. Each user folder contains:

     Address Book
     Internet Mail
     Internet Mail and News Prefs
     Internet News
You asked: Internet Config Users

Internet Config is a third-party application that allows Internet applications to share preferences. If you are using Internet Config, use it as a template for the information that all users share, such as the News server. The information entered in Internet Config appears in the Preferences dialog box for all new users, so do not enter any information that is specific to one user.

For more information on setting up Internet Mail and News for multiple users, choose Internet Mail and News Help from the Help menu, and then click Setup Up Servers and Internet Config.
