E-mail
To send and receive e-mail, click on the Mail, Read Mail icon from your browser or click on Start, Programs, Internet Mail. This starts the e-mail application.. You are now working offline. This means that although your e-mail application is open, you do not need to be connected to the Internet. When you want to receive your messages, click the Send and Receive icon. The software will automatically log on to the server for you and download any new messages that are waiting for you. The first time you do this you may receive an error messages stating that Authentication failed. If this happens, click the OK button, then enter your e-mail password. Your new messages will be stored in the Inbox. You can then click on the messages in turn to read them. The first time you log on there will be a message from BTinternet giving you details of your registration. To send an e-mail, click on the New Message icon. In the To: box, type in the e-mail address of the mail recipient(s). Type the subject of the message in the Subject: box, and then write the message in the main text area of the page. When you are ready to send the message, click the Send button. You will see a message box advising you that your mail has been placed in the Outbox. This is so that you can create several messages then send them all at the same time, if you wish. When you actually want to send the message click on the Send and Receive icon. For more information, refer to the "Help" section of the Internet Mail program. With each BTinternet annual account, you can create unlimited mailboxes, each with their own name and password. To find out how to set up additional mailboxes, go to the Multiple Mailboxes page. How do I use the Newsreader to send e-mail? When following threads in Newsgroups, you may wish to send a comment to just the author of an article, as opposed to replying to the group as a whole. In this case you should use e-mail to send your message. Having opened the article in the News program, click on the Reply to Author icon. In the To: box, you will see the e-mail address of the person whose article you are responding to - their e-mail address will be at the top of their original article. Don't include any words in brackets. When you have typed your message and are ready to deliver it, click on the Send button. |
