Installing Microsoft Comic Chat

Create a temporary directory

Complete this procedure if you don't already have a directory that you use for temporary storage.

1. Click My Computer.
2. Click C.
3. Click File, New, Folder.
4. Overtype "New Folder" with BTTEMP.
5. Click Enter.

Download the new software

1. With your right mouse button, click the links to download the Microsoft Comic Chat program (1,055,984 bytes). You can also install the Comic Chat Art Pack (660208 bytes) with 10 new comic characters and 2 new color backgrounds.
2. Click Save Target As.
3. In the Save As window, click the Save in pull-down menu and select c:\.
4. Doubleclick bttemp.
5. Click OK.

With a 28.8kbps modem, Comic Chat v1.1 takes about 10 minutes to download and the Comic Chat Art Pack about 5 minutes.

Carry out the update

1. Close any open applications or windows.
2. Click the Start button, then click Run.
3. Type C:\BTTEMP\CCHAT11.EXE (if you have downloaded Comic Chat v1.1) or C:\BTTEMP\CCHATPACK.EXE (if you have downloaded Comic Chat Art Pack).
4. Click Yes when asked to Install Microsoft Comic Chat or Install Microsoft Comic Chat Art Pack.
5. Read the Microsoft End User License Agreement then click Yes.
6. Allow the Microsoft Internet Explorer setup to proceed until you arethanked for installing Comic Chat or Comic Chat Art Pack.
7. Click OK.

Run Comic Chat

1. Click Start, Programs, Microsoft Comic Chat, Microsoft Comic Chat.
2. When asked for a Nickname, choose one that is likely to be unique, e.g. Bob96.
3. Click OK.
4. In the Server box, type chat.btinternet.com. Leave the port number as 6667.
5. In the Go to chat roombox, type #newbies.
6. Click OK.
7. You are now participating in a chat on the Newbies channel. This is a good place to learn how Chat works and to become familiar with your software. For further help click on the Help menu.

How do I set up an alternative IRC (Chat) program?
