Welcome to the Aberdeen Darts Association Web Pages

 

1. The association shall be called the Aberdeen Darts Association.
@
2. Its objects shall be to foster the game of darts and to raise the standard of play in Aberdeen.
@
3. The annual subscription for each term shall be determined by the Committee before the AGM and shall be payable before the date of the AGM.
@
4. The management shall be invested in a committee consisting President and nine others to be elected at the AGM. If the Committee falls short of 11 members the President will have the right to co-opt anyone onto the Committee, six to form a quorum. No more than two officials shall be appointed from any one club. Within 14 days of the AGM, the elected Committee will appoint, from within those elected, the members to serve as Office bearers.

5. The chairman of all meetings of Committee shall have a deliberate and casting vote, except on matters relating to his own club, when he shall not have a casting vote.

6. The committee shall have power to call special meetings should they think advisable, and shall also be bound to call special general meetings of the association on receiving a request (specifying the object) from no fewer than three clubs.
@
7. Each club will appoint a representative to attend the general or special meetings; the appointed representative shall be the only person from each club who will be permitted entry to the meeting. No two clubs to be represented by the same individual. A fine of £20 for non-attendance at annual meeting or special meetings. Apologies will not be accepted.

8. 50% of the number of representatives eligible to attend shall form a quorum at all meetings. In the event of the number of representatives present during the meeting falling below that required for a quorum then no further business shall be transacted and the meeting shall be deemed to be closed.

9. The committee shall have power to arrange matches to be played under the auspices of the ADA as they may think desirable, the selection of teams for such matches to be in their hands.

RULES OF COMPETITION
@
1.
    The league shall consist of six divisions. There shall be 8 teams in the super premier & premier divisions. Division 1 shall consist of 16 teams. Divisions 2,3 and 4 shall consist of 17 teams.  At the end of each season the bottom club for the super premier division will be relegated, the team in second bottom spot will play the runner up team from the premier division for the second promotion spot. Two or more clubs in 1, 2, 3 & 4 divisions will be promoted, depending on the number of clubs applying for membership. The bottom club in the super premier league will be relegated. In the premier, 1, 2 & 3 divisions the bottom two clubs will be relegated this will include clubs who have withdrawn or been expelled from the league after the start of the season, but will not count clubs failing to complete the first four league matches. League winners will be awarded £200 and annual trophy. League runner-up will be awarded £100 and annual trophy.

    All matches shall commence at 8pm unless the officials for some reasonable cause extend the time. In all league and cup matches the away captain shall call on the toss of a coin and the winner of the toss shall throw first in all odd numbered games and the loser of the toss shall throw first in all even numbered games. A match shall be deemed officially started when a coin is tossed to decide first throw. Only six practice darts are allowed after the two players are at the “oche”. Players’ names may be chalked up beside the scoreboard in order of play, but the order may be altered if a team captain deems it necessary.

4. No team may play a league, George Baxter trophy, Evening Express trophy, Embassy trophy, Fountain trophy or Ambassador trophy match with less than six players. No more than two players arriving late can be included to bring a team up to full strength, provided a legal line up of at least six players are present (i.e. have signed the “team lines”) when match commences, and that play is not held up awaiting the arrival of late-comers. In the event of a team having less than six players, the opposing side shall sign “team lines” in the normal way and record the maximum score possible for that match in their favour. When a team claims a game because the opposition has less than six players, the team claiming must show the opposing side the match lines to verify that they have a legal line-up of at least six players. Only after doing so can the game be claimed.

5. League matches in the super premier, premier and division 1 to be played as 8 singles, best of three legs and 4 pairs, best of three legs. League matches in division2, 3 & 4 to be played as 8 singles, best of one leg and 4 pairs best of one. All 501 straight start and double finish. Matches in the Ambassador trophy, Embassy trophy and Fountain trophy shall be played as 8 singles and 4 pairs games of 501 up, straight start and finishing on a double. In league, Ambassador trophy, Embassy trophy and Fountain trophy matches teams may utilise the services of twelve (12) players provided they are not in breach of rule 4. In the event of a draw in a Fountain trophy, Embassy trophy or Ambassador trophy matches one game of 1001 to be played immediately. Straight start, double finish (with a new toss of the coin).

6. Two points shall be awarded for a win and one point for a draw. Where teams withdraw from the Association before the first half of the season is completed any points gained against that team will be deducted. If a team withdraws after the start of the second half of the season points gained in the first half will stand but no points will be awarded for second half matches.

    In the event of two or more clubs having the same number of points at the end of a season, thus tying for a championship, a play-off will decide winner. This rule shall also apply where clubs tie for promotion or relegation. Play-offs will be one home leg and one away leg with 1001 if match drawn. Teams to be notified within 7 days of last League match.
8. Teams in the super premier & premier division shall play for the Embassy trophy. Teams in division 1& 2 shall play for the Fountain trophy. Teams in division 3, and 4 shall play for the Ambassador trophy.

9. In the George Baxter trophy competition seven singles and four pair’s games of 501 must be played straight start and finishing on a double. Teams may use twelve (12) players during the match provided that they are not in breach of rule 4.

10. In the Evening Express trophy competition, teams should consist of seven players a side, and seven singles games of 501 must be played straight start and finishing on a double.

11. In the East Neuk trophy competition, teams may consist of five players a side, and six games must be played as follows: four singles and two pair’s games of 501. In the event of a draw, a foursome of 1001 with a new toss will be played. All games straight start and finishing on a double.

12. In the Donald Taylor trophy competition, teams must consist of three players a side and played on a round-robin as follows: 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 1v2, 2v3, 3v1, 1v3, 2v1, and 3v2, of 501 straight start and finishing on a double.

13. In the Belmont trophy competition, teams must consist of five players, and five single legs of the best of three to be played, 501 straight start and finishing on a double.

14. In the East Neuk trophy, Donald Taylor trophy and Belmont trophy teams must have the required number of players before matches commences.

15. Teams and individual trophy winners are responsible for the return of all trophies to the appointed place before the play-off date. Teams will be fined £20 if this is not done. Publicans to be responsible for trophies kept on their premises. All damages to be repaired at no cost to the association.

16. Winning teams are responsible for putting team lines and results in the ADA box in the East Neuk Bar, King Street, Aberdeen, not later than 6.00pm two days after date of match. Home teams are responsible for results of drawn games.
In league games teams failing to comply with this rule shall forfeit point or points gained in match.
In cup games teams will be eliminated.

17. ADA Singles trophy matches format will be the best of five legs of 501,semi-Final best of 7 legs of 501. Final best of 9 legs of 501. All games to be played straight start finish on a double only. Entry fee will be £1.00 per player. Only players registered with ADA on or before the closing date for singles will be accepted. The ADA match secretary to disregard any names not registered.

Home player/team must make arrangements for playing games by contacting opponent on the first Monday following publication of draws.It is recommended that calls be made  before 9.00pm, giving opponent choice of three dates. If the away player does not receive notification on the first Monday he then becomes the home player and must make contact on the second Monday giving opponent choice of two dates. Only two weeks (2 Mondays, 2 Thursdays) will be allotted when singles and pairs competitions reach the last 32 & 16.

Any player having difficulty arranging a match MUST contact their league rep or Committee before 10.00pm for assistance.

Winning players/team are responsible for depositing results into ADA box which is held in East Neuk Bar, King Street, Aberdeen.

Players/teams who fail to submit results by 6.00pm two days after the closing date will be eliminated.

CLAIMS:- Forms to be completed stating reason for claim and who was contacted on the Committee. Reasonable dates (Monday or Thursday) to be given for playing matches.

PLAYERS/TEAMS WHO CLAIM A GAME WITHOUT CONTACTING LEAGUE REPS/COMMITTEE WILL ELIMINATE THEMSELVES FROM THE COMPETITION.

18. All team’s secretaries must be registered with the committee by completing a secretary’s registration form within 4 weeks of the season starting. If team has to change secretary during season the committee must be informed before the team’s next game by the new secretary completing a new secretary’s form. Unregistered secretaries will not be entered into Bill Masson/Joe Horne trophies.

19. (a) The Royals Shield shall be competed for by the champion of each club and shall be played as per rule 17.

(b) The Leonard pairs shall be competed for by the pair’s champions of each club and shall be played as per rule 17.
@
(c) Each club shall play their own qualifying competitions for both these tournaments.
@
(d) The previous year’s winners of the Royals Shield and Leonard pairs trophies shall be granted automatic entry into the current year’s tournament.

20. The Bill Masson trophy will be contested by secretaries in the super premier, premier & division 1. Secretaries in divisions 2, 3 and 4 will contest the Joe Horne trophy. Games shall be played as per rule 17.

21. (a) All teams to complete a competition entry form at the start of the season. Teams that fail to return forms will be deemed to have entered all competitions.

(b) Team cup games to be played on fixed dates arranged by committee and advertised in the press. If a team cannot raise a team for a cup match they should telephone the opposition on Monday telling them the situation. See also rule 43

22.
    The committee will nominate markers quarter-final, semi-final and finals matches at neutral venues. When teams are involved they will alternate..

23. The board shall be 5ft.8ins. (173cms) high from the floor to the centre of the “bull” and the throwline or “oche” 7ft.9¼ins(237cms) in a plumb line from the face of the board measured along the floor. The diagonal distance from the centre of the bull to the back of the “oche” shall be 9ft.7½ins(293cms). No player to throw from a distance less than 7ft.9¼ins. (237cms).

24. Any protest regarding the legality of a throw must be made at the time of such throw.
@
25. The throwline shall be a raised “oche” at least 2ft long and 1½ins high.
@
26. All scoring boards shall be fixed so that the score can be clearly seen and individual scores to be shown at side for checking.
@
27. No automatic marking boards to be used for matches.
@
28. A bull (50) shall count as a double.
@
29. A player is not bound to go for the double required, but may obtain the number in his own way provided he obtains the exact number required and finishes on a double which completes the exact number to finish the game. During a throw a player may ask the checker his score to date, or what remains and may be told either. He may only be told the amount and not the double i.e. 34 but not double 17.

30. All matches under the jurisdiction of the A.D.A. shall be played on a standard board. Any measurement within 1/8th inch to be standard. (reconditioned boards are not suitable).

31. Clubs shall supply suitable playing materials (not including darts) and accommodation for all matches.
@
32. Teams from Super Premier/Premier shall play two home and two away games. All other divisions shall play one home and one away game. If home venue is unavailable to accomodate away team, Home team shall forfeit home advantage and play game at opponent's venue.  The Committee shall be informed if premises are closed or normal playing area is unavailable before next scheduled match. If after a period of four weeks the home venue is still unavailable, the Committee shall have the discretion to agree to a suitable alternative venue to be used until the home venue is available.
33. Three “doubles” or “trebles” or three darts in any one “bed” is not “game” unless the three “doubles” constitutes the exact number required. @
34.
    Only the darts actually touching or in the board are counted. If darts fall out before darts have been retrieved only darts remaining in the board will count. A ”game shot” called by the referee/caller or marker is valid only if the darts thrown achieve the required finish and remain in the dartboard until retrieved by the thrower (darts shall be retrieved from the dartboard by the thrower, except only in those circumstances when a physical disability or physical injury requires a player to have assistance, but only after the score has been called by the referee or caller and recorded by the scorer or marker at the time “game shot” is called).
35. A dart counts what it indicates at point of entry irrespective of the position it is in the board.

36. Home teams must provide a scorer and marker and the visiting team one scorer.
@
37. Each player must sign the registered form approved by the association and a fee of £1 per player paid to the association, before becoming eligible to play in any A.D.A. competition. An elected committee member can only accept registration forms. In cases where a committee member cannot be contacted the opposing team’s captain may countersign the registration form thus enabling player eligible to play in that match.

38. A player may transfer from one team to another team during season if following criteria are met:-
@
(1) Player must get his or her registration cancelled.
@
(2) A player who has played a game for a team he or she has signed for will only get his or her registration cancelled if the secretary and captain of team he or she is registered to agrees to cancel his or her registration.
@
(3) Player will only be able to sign for a different team from list of teams held by committee.
@
(4) Teams who are having difficulty fielding a team on arranged games may apply to get on the list held by the committee.
@
(5) Player will be cup-tied from any cup competitions he or she has played in (Fountain Trophy, Embassy Trophy and Ambassador Trophy counted as one). 
(6) If when player applies to have registration cancelled there are no teams on the register, player registration will be held by his or her team until a suitable team is on the register or the player wishes to cancel his request to cancel his or her registration. Player will only have one registration cancelled per season.

(7) There will be a fee of £5 for cancelling player registration.
@
(8) The committee reserves the right to refuse any team entry on to list; no reason need be given for refusal.
@
(9) The committee reserves the right to refuse any player’s request to cancel registration, no reason need be given.
@
(10) Any player who has registered for a team and not played may have their registration cancelled by the committee.
@
(11) Any player who signs for two or more teams without cancelling their registration will be dealt with by the committee.
@
39. In disputes regarding playing conditions, viz.: position, type, height or condition of the board, length of throw, “oche”, lighting etc., A protest must be made before play commences, otherwise, once play has commenced this will be regarded as signifying that the playing conditions are satisfactory and agreed by both teams. Failing settlement of any complaint on the spot, the match shall be played “under protest” and the match results sheet marked accordingly and signed on behalf of the protesting team. If a match is played under protest, the captains must sign the official match lines prior to the match commencing and have the time and signature verified by the opposition. Protest must be made in writing, full reasons being stated to the association match secretary within two days of the match taking place. No protest concerning the playing conditions will be considered unless this is made in accordance with the procedure detailed above and also complies without the procedure governing protests generally.

All matters concerning the eligibility of players and interpretation of rules or other disputes shall be referred to the committee whose decision shall be final.
@
40. All protests must be accompanied by a deposit of £2-00 and lodged with the committee within two days of the concerned, protesting club must name player or players protested against.

41. In the event of protest being upheld by the committee the successfully protesting club shall be awarded the game (in league matches a 12-0 victory recorded in their favour) and the £2-00 deposit refunded.

42. Where protest is overruled the fee is forfeited.
@
43. Any club failing to fulfil an engagement without sufficient reason shall be dealt with by the committee and on the offence being repeated shall be liable to expulsion from the association. A club that has been expelled from the association may not be granted automatic entry in the season following the expulsion. Teams that fail to turn up for a match (league or cup) to be fined £20. The fine to be paid by that team to charity chosen by committee. A telephone call to the opposition must be made before 7.30p.m on the night and the ADA secretary must be informed by 7.30p.m at the latest.

44.
    T eams should be suitably dressed at quarterfinal and semi-final matches. Football or offensive clothing is not allowed.
    @
45. The committee reserves the right to debar any person from taking part in the association tournaments.
@
46. If a player or players do not fulfil a fixture without the prior consent of the committee they will forfeit any prize money and trophies due to them. If a player or players are not at the presentation of trophies on finals night, they may forfeit all prizes.
@
47. No alterations to the foregoing constitution and rules shall be made except at the annual general meeting or a special meeting for that purpose. Any club desiring to submit a motion proposing changes in the constitution and rules shall give notice of such a motion in writing, specifying the changes proposed, to the secretary of the association not later than fourteen days before the date of the annual general meeting or special meeting; provided however that this rule shall not apply to any alteration which the committee shall at any time authorise to be placed on the agenda.

48. Scottish competitions: - the A.D.A will only provide a subsidy to enable travel to qualifying matches for players who are eligible to play for either of Aberdeen’s super league teams. When a bus is provided players must use this service or travel at their own cost.

    Teams to provide mobile contact numbers and E-mail address (if available) at the start of the season so Committee have direct contact with a team member.

  Players have been deemed to have played a game by signing team lines.
N.B. In bars where radios, television sets, juke boxes or other musical instruments are installed, the association would greatly appreciate same being switched off or a reduction in volume during matches. Players competing on finals night should be suitably dressed. Jeans or cords and trainers will not be allowed on stage. It would be appreciated if teams did not play summer league matches until the A.D.A. season is finished.

The committee will still be in attendance at the East Neuk Bar from 6.30-7.30p.m. on Mondays to accept player registrations and any other queries.
