Ski-Mountaineering in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru

This expedition will be based in the town of Huaraz situated at a height of 3000m at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca mountains in northern Peru. We will make two short acclimatisation trips into the Cordillera Blanca before making a ski crossing of the Copa-Hualcan plateau and ascent of Copa on skis.

There will be opportunities to do some skiing and to climb one or two lower peaks of up to 5500m during the first acclimatisation phase of the expedition which will include a visit to Pastoruri in the south of the Cordillera Blanca.

The Copa-Hualcan plateau has some of the best ski-mountaineering terrain in northern Peru. We'll climb in one long day to Legiacocha, using donkeys to carry all our kit. From here we'll climb onto the plateau by a steep colouir. We'll then make an ascent of Copa by the west slopes, before skiing north to leave the plateau near Hualcan.
