Pictured above is the impressive Pedra do Bau in the Serra da Mantiqueria. There are routes of up to 300m on this peak and on the neighbouring peaks of Ana Chata and the Bauzinho. Elsewhere in the mountains of Brazil there is excellent climbing and scrambling in the Itatiaia national park and at Piedra Grande
Pictured above is Rio de Janeiro from the suburb of Urca. There is great rock climbing in and around Rio de Janeiro. This is a city with plenty of mountains, there are 200m crags right by the pavements in Urca. The world famous landmark of the Cristo Redentor stands at the top of a peak called Corcovado and an excellent 150m E1 (5.10) rock route! The Pao de Acucar peak has literally a hundred excellent routes on it, and a free descent in the cable car afterwards.
Climbing on pitch four of the route 'Reinaldo Behnken', Morro da Babilonia, Rio. At this height the palm trees on the Praia Vermelha are starting to look pretty wee..
