Fitzroy 3441m

Technical climbing in Argentine Patagonia

Patagonia is a magical place. It is a land of outrageous scenery where huge fingers of rock jut into the sky between magnificent glaciers and giant icebergs float peacefully in ice blue lakes.

This expedition will attempt an ascent of the magnificent peak of Fitzroy, known also by its native name of Chalten. We will use the Franco-Argentine route on the south side of the mountain, over 20 pitches of climbing at 5.9/HVS/A1 on granite and possibly with some snow. This is a difficult ascent in weather that can be very cold and stormy and the expedition can only be joined by those with suitable and extensive previous mountaineering experience.
