| Summary | After taking photos with a digital camera, you're usually left with filenames that you want to rename to something which makes more sense. However, you also want to keep them in the order you took them, so you end up adding a number onto the first part of the filename to keep them in order. This makes it really difficult when you discover you've got the images in the wrong order, or have mistakenly left a gap in the numbers. AJRename provides an easy way to name a set of pictures, automatically manages the numbers, and makes it easy to reorder them. |
| Download and Installation |
To install, simply unzip the AJRename.exe to somewhere on your C drive. To run it, double-click the exe. You may wish to create a shortcut in the "Send to" folder, or in the start menu.

| General |
![]() To use this program, simply select the directory which contains the files to be renamed through file / Open Folder. This will display all JPG files inside the directory on the left of the window. Selecting an image will show the image in the big preview window. You can rename the selected file(s) by selecting Image / Rename, or you can automatically go through the images renaming them all by selecting Image / Rename Mode. When in Rename Mode, as soon as you have named the current picture, pressing Enter will move onto the next image. The name will default to the same as the previous picture. When all changes done, are select "Save names", to actually rename the files.

| Re-ordering pictures |
To change the order of the pictures, you can simply select and drag them in the list - they will be numbered in whatever order they are shown in. In addition to clicking and draggin, you may also move them up and down via the toolbar buttons / keyboard shortcuts. As with changing the names of the pictures, you must select "Save names" for the files to actually be renamed.
|
| Image Processing |
To avoid having to use another program simply to rotate images clockwise / anticlockwise, menu options are provided to allow the image to be rotated. Note that this has an instant effect, and will not wait for you to select "Save Names" before altering the files. This uses a lossless rotate, so you should not see JPEG image quality reduced.
|
| Deleting images |
In addition to naming and re-ordering photos, often you will wish to delete a picture that you no longer wish to keep. A delete image menu item is provided. It is not possible to use the Image / Delete option when you are currently in Rename Mode
|
| WARNING |
With this program there is a very real risk of data-loss. During the rename process, if an error occurs then it is possible that you could loose your data. If an error does occur, you are likely to find that all your files are still present, but they may now have the original filename, followed by the "tmp". If so, simply rename them back. The delete function will perminently delete files with no undo facility, so please be careful with this.
