Brigitte Escobar, Professional jazz vocalist

Biography: (from redkiterecords.com)

Born in Seville, Spain to a Danish father and Peruvian mother, with much of her early childhood spent in Seville, and later Madrid, where she attended The Swedish School and learned to speak fluent Swedish. At the age of eight and following the death of her father, the  family moved to Denmark.

Denmark became her home for the next eighteen years during which time her fascination with music grew. Remembering her early influences, Brigitte says, "I became involved in music at the age of 12 when I started playing the guitar (I taught myself by watching a guy in the youth-club playing, memorising what he did, and hurrying home to imitate him) and singing Beatles songs." Adding piano to her list of self taught instruments it wasn't long before Brigitte had enrolled at music school and began playing guitar in various bands. Brigitte's passion for the Beatles continued and not only influenced her playing but she also learnt English just to understand their lyrics! It was whilst trying to cycle the several miles to school with a guitar and amp balancing on her knees that Brigitte realised singing might be a more practical choice. Brigitte started performing at the age of 15 and has since worked as a lead singer in numerous bands in styles variynig from rock/ soul/ funk/ world music/ jazz/ salsa/ bossa nova and classical settings. No stone is left unturned!

Brigitte has been performing for over eighteen years and has appeared at many music festivals including Roskilde Festivalen (Denmark), EXPO '92 Seville (Spain), The Pearl (Iceland) and Bridgewater Hall (UK). Performing with Salsa Pa Gozar, Brigitte has recently been the supporting act for amongst others Celia Cruz, Orlando Cachaito Lopez, Buena Vista Social Club and Afro Cuban All Stars.

Her natural talent for music and languages is wonderfully combined on her album, with songs in no less than five languages. Beautiful melodies, traditional folk songs and upbeat jazz combine to create an album that completes one journey but is also sure to be the start of the next.

Performing with Brigitte on her album are: -

Gary Boyle - Co producer/Guitar
Riaan Vosloo - Bass
Pat Illingworth - Drums
Zoe Rahman - Piano
