GNVQ Advanced IT Unit 4 - Lab 2 

To assist you a large number of links are available from this site.  Try -  web page tools,  on-line learnning links,  HTML and Java There is a wide range of sites offering free web tools and tutorials available on the Web.

Tasks:

• Design a web site for yourself.  All pages should be related to the course, with links to useful sites and an e-mail link so that viewers of your page can communicate with you. You may also provide a comments box.  NOTE. this is not a requirement for the unit but may be of interest to those that would like to delve deeper into web-page design.  Graphics can be used but are not essential at this level.
• If you already have your own home web page (perhaps on a home computer) this can be linked to your course page. A professional, industry standard is expected in the design and content of your page.
• Your individual page can give a short introduction to yourself, the course that you are studying and links to web sites that you have found useful during your studies. (see if you can include a scanned photo)
• If you do not have all of your sources available then complete your web page (under construction) and add to it as new sites are identified.
• Register yourself with an on-line web site provider such as TRIPOD, but, do not use their on-line web page design,  this will not meet the requirements of either units 4 or 6, you need to identify their FTP server address so that we can design on our own computers and transfer the files on completion.  The  useful links page accessible from the homepage buttons has links to some providers that you may wish to use.  However there are plenty to choose from on the web including some of the search engines
• Complete and demonstrate your page by March 1st 2000 and provide files on disk for FTP'ng onto an ISP.
• E-mail me on locol_advit@postmaster.co.uk with the URL for your siteand it will then be linked to the course web page.

You can use Netscape Composer to design your web page.  Although you can work in HTML it is not essential that you do for this unit. You will find that using Netscape Composer as an editor will produce the required HTML code for you. (it is available in the Resource Centres)

However the techno-buffs amongst you may like the challenge of learning HTML and many links are available on the home page to help you.  Be warned though! raw HTML is not for the light hearted.

Complete your page by March 1st 2000 and provide files on disk for FTP'ng onto an ISP site.  The useful links contains links to sites that provide between 10 and 50Mbyte of free web space for you launch your web site.  As this will be on the web it is your site to maintain after unit 4 is completed.

You will be introduced to a range of scripting code that will meet some of the evidence requirements for Unit 2 Software.
