Lab 1 Communications
log and setting up e-mail
This lab work is in preparation for assignment evidence
which you will be issued with within the next three weeks
Tasks

Produce an A4 landscape communications log. As
this is a log, the page layout should only have margins set at ½"
and the page layout should cover the maximum amount of the page.

Make entries to the log on a regular basis to collect evidence
for this unit. The log should show evidence of all telephone, LAN,
WAN, Web, e-mail and facsimile transmissions. Evidence of ALL data
transfer
must also be logged.

Log onto the web and register yourself on Postmaster.co.uk
or some other free e-mail site. Use a recognisable e-mail address
in the format Surname, initial, course. e.g. SmithjAdvIT.
(Non proffessional names will not be accepted) Advise your tutor
by 12th Jan 2000 that your account has been set up by sendimng an e-mail
to locol_advit@postmaster.co.uk. All students
will need an account. Some in course communications will be via
e-mail.

You will be expected to use a range of e-mail features
to include Forward, reply, carbon copy, group, address book, folders and
attached file. You will need to check your e-mail once or twice a
day for communications from your course tutors.

Printouts of e-mails should be collected as evidence.
Your communication log should be completed for each message transmission.
If you are experiencing difficulty
in setting up an account speak to your tutor. You should also use
the communication links provided on the web site which includes the guestbook
on the home page and the query link provided on the bottom of most pages
and from the buttons if the frames facility is activated.
You may may access the guestbook and view comments.
Students from around the UK post messages and their e-mail addresses.
You may like to make contact and share knowledge and experiences with them
using your e-mail accounts. It is expected that adult and course
related comments are posted in the guest book. Offensive material
will be removed and the responsible persons
On completion of these tasks you should show your tutor
and agree the format of a communication log (by 12th Jan 2000) which you
MUST enter all communication activities that you wish to be used in evidence.
The log must also be signed by your tutor, and ALL fully completed sheets
should be filed in your portfolio as evidence. PC
