Consortia

PISTEP

PISTEP is a consortium of UK companies in the process industries. It aims to increase the competitiveness of the UK process industry by improving engineering information management throughout the lifecycle and the supply chain. This is being achieved by the use of information technology and international standards.

See the PISTEP website for further information.

POSC Caesar

POSC Caesar is an industry-driven research and development project that was initiated in 1993. The purpose of the project is to benefit the oil and gas industry by developing a Product Model for life-cycle information. The POSC Caesar project is focused on standardising the technical data definitions for facilities and equipment associated with onshore and offshore oil and gas development facilities. There are close ties with ISO STEP. The POSC Caesar Product Model, which is composed of a Data Model and Reference Data Library, is the basis for ISO 15926.

USPI-NL

USPI-NL (Uitgebreid Samenwerkingsverband Procesindustrie, Nederland) is a formal Association of companies operating in and supplying to the Dutch Process and Power Industry with the objective to promote and support the development and implementation of those international standards for the interchange, sharing, and management of data and documents, that fulfil the life-cycle plant data and related document management requirements.

PlantSTEP

PlantSTEP is a US-based industrial consortium of companies that own, design, build, operate and maintain process plants and companies that supply equipment, materials and information technology for the process and construction industries. The primary focus of PlantSTEP is to develop and support implementation of data exchange standards based on ISO/STEP. These standards will enable concurrent engineering, design, construction, and operation of large facilities by allowing full information sharing among all project contributors.

POSC

POSC is an international not-for-profit membership corporation that provides open specifications for information modeling, information management, and data and application integration over the life cycle of E&P assets. POSC has developed and published a set of specifications to improve sharing of technical information within and among oil companies, oil field service companies, governments and other players in the industry. These specifications, including the industry recognized data model, Epicentre, are being used in commercial products, industry data repository projects and oil company projects around the world.

PlantEC

PlantEC is a Japanese consortium organized within the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA). PlantEC has worked on the development and practical use of standards-based data warehouses in the process plant industries, as a foundation for electronic commerce.

PIEBASE

PIEBASE is the global 'umbrella' for process industry consortia and their member companies active in the development of STEP (Standards for the Exchange of Product Data, ISO standard 10303) and other standards for industrial data for the process industries. It is charged with the overall coordination of the development and implementation of these standards. In particular it is responsible for the vision, and the Road Map needed to deliver that vision, and for the coordination and stimulation of industry activities to achieve that. PIEBASE provides a forum for broad participation by industry consortia in defining the priorities of the global process industry in this area and in reviewing proposals for international standardization.

The members of PIEBASE are Process Industry consortia active in the development of international standards for information sharing and exchange. The participants of PIEBASE comprise those process industry companies active in the subject area via their membership of industry consortia, and their representation is their membership of those bodies.

ACTIVE

ACTIVE (Achieving Competitiveness through Innovation and Value Engineering) is an industry-led supply chain initiative which aims to reduce by 30% the cost of executing engineering construction projects in the UK. It aims to build upon and improve the competitiveness of the UK as a site for process plant projects for industries including onshore oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and water treatment.

For more information on the initiative, please contact the ACTIVE Secretariat:

LOGIC

LOGIC (Leading Oil and Gas Industry Competitiveness) is an industry funded organisation that will work with companies throughout the industry to stimulate collaboration and radically improve competitiveness - improving UK oil and gas sector performance by an estimated £1Bn over the next three years and export performance by 50% over the next five years.

LOGIC is continuing the work of the CRINE and CRINE Network Initiatives.

PLCS

PLCS (Product Life Cycle Support) is an international consortium of private and public sector organisations, primarily from the aerospace and defence sectors. PLCS's purpose is to accelerate the development of a new standard for product support information. The PLCS Initiative is building on established standards such as ISO STEP, AECMA 1000D/2000M, and a range of national specifications to provide an international standard definition of the information required for the four key customer support processes - Support Engineering, Configuration Management, Maintenance and Feedback, and Inventory Management.

KnoW (Knowledge on the Web)

KnoW is a collaborative initiative bringing together industrial, commercial, governmental and not-for-profit organizations, consultants, implementers, academics and software vendors, with the intent of making rapid and tangible progress towards enabling the sharing and exchange of knowledge between people, organizations and systems using the technology of the Web.

If you would like to receive further information about the KnoW initiative, or become actively involved in any way, please send email to know-info@rivcom.com

Information about KnoW is available at the KnoW website.

STEP Centres

The International Industry STEP Centers (ISC) are organizations that represent industry working on STEP development, implementation and promotion around the world.

The members of the ISC are:

There is no UK national STEP Centre, although UK organizations are members of PDES, Inc., ProSTEP, and EMSA (focusing on the aerospace/defence, automotive, and shipping industries respectively).
