It is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and neglect of children and young people.

2nd Flitwick Girls' Brigade

Girls' Brigade for 5-16s meet weekly in term time for fun and games and the opportunity to discover Jesus.

Our numbers are steady – approximately 45 children on the register. 2008 has been good so far. We have had a mixture of fun and some serious study. The girls have been looking at some of the Old Testament. We have studied Noah, Esther, David and Goliath, and various parts of the Moses story.

Some of the company have been to the Wolf Sanctuary in line with looking at conservation and the environment for the educational part of our badge. Our older girls joined in at Holiday Club as Young Leaders which was a great success as they proved themselves to be reliable and helpful.

The officers then took these girls to “Energize”, a youth service at Luton Central Baptist church, a monthly service which they enjoyed and have asked to go again.

We enjoyed two swimming evenings in May to swim as our physical part of the badge this year with our Juniors, Seniors and Brigaders participating in a sponsored swim to help with funds.  With that in mind we held a fund raising Soup Kitchen booked on 7th June.

Our display and awards evening will be on Tuesday 1st July which will be our last evening at the church until September. We will be meeting at the recreation ground for a couple of weeks weather permitting.

Looking into the new academic year – we will be flower arranging, line dancing, cooking and studying The Lords Prayer. Not to mention a trip to Cadbury World in December!! So – apart from needing some extra regular help all is well at 2nd Flitwick GB!!

S Club

S Club is for children and young people aged 4-16. We meet on a Sunday morning from 10.30-11.30 whilst the church service takes place. We sing, play games, make stuff and learn about God and Jesus in a very informal way.

There are 3 groups divided by age, Pebbles, Rocks and Boulders so the activities we do are appropriate for the age and ability of our children and young people. At the end of our session, we join the congregation in Church to tell them about what we have been doing and learning.

At Christmas, we lead a nativity service on the Sunday afternoon before Christmas.

On the second Sunday of the month, S Club does not meet as we have a family service and the children from Girls and Boys Brigade are in Church as well. The service is directed at the children and young people to make it more interesting for them.

If you would like to know more, come along on a Sunday morning and try it out. Parents can stay to see what we do.

All of our leaders have a Criminal Records Bureau check. Our Safeguarding lead is Anne Foley who ensures appropriate procedures are followed for the care of our children and young people.

A crèche is run every Sunday during the Church service and as the children grow older, we involve them in the Pebbles section of our S Club.

Many of the children come back again the following years and once they are too old, some come and help as young leaders.

All the adult helpers are volunteers. Here are some comments from children and parents we received this year:

‘ thank-you for all the fun we have had this week’

‘thank-you…….the children really enjoyed themselves’

‘my daughter has had a great time this week’
