Wednesday 1 June 2005 - Handicap Shield
Gary C scraped home in the final, beating Donny C 4-3 after overcoming a 9-hit handicap. Third place was shared by Steve E and Allison H.

Saturday/Sunday 28/29 May 2005 - Veterans International England v Wales
Gary L, David S and Sue T represented England Veterans in their inaugural international match, against Wales at Wrexham. In the team matches on the Saturday, Emgland completed a 6-0 whitewash across all six weapons, with the Men’s Epee team featuring Gary and David winning 45-28 and Sue’s Women’s Epee team coming out on top by 45-35. Sunday’s individual events saw Gary and David taking the top two places in Men’s Epee, with Sue finishing fourth at Women’s Epee.

Wednesday 4 May 2005 - Junior Milroy Cup
A disappointing entry, but a worthy winner in Donny C who defeated Luke B in the final.

Wednesday 27 April 2005 - home match with Liverpool University
Four team matches were arranged for the visit from our friends at Liverpool University. The evening ended with an honourable 2-2 draw, although the less honourable members pointed out that we won on indicators! Results: Foil1 (Jackie R, Jeff K, Donny C) 42-45; Foil2 (Allison H, Gary Coe, Steve E) 45-35; Epee (Helen C, Vinnie S, Ben M, Reserve David M) 42-45; Sabre (David S, Gary C, Gary L) 45-29.

Wednesday 20 April 2005 - Milroy Cup
Gary C continued his run in the Club’s foil championship with a 5-2 victory over Adam S in the final. David S and Jeff K took joint third place.

Saturday/Sunday 16/17 April 2005 - Winton Cup
Jeff K became the eighth Club member to represent the North West region, and only the second at Men’s Foil. The North West finished second in the second division and gained promotion to the first division for next year.

Saturdays 12/19 March 2005 - North West Championships
This year the Club was honoured with an invitation to host the North West Championships. The event attracted the best entry for many years and was a great success, although only Gary C managed to get in the medals, taking silver at Men’s Epee. Full results are in our Competitions section.

Wednesday 23 February 2005 - Farrell Cup
The Club’s annual sabre championship was run as a poule unique with six competitors. The gold medal was decided by the penultimate fight when Gary C defeated Gary L 5-2 with the benefit of some dodgy refereeing. (You can say these things when you are the Webmaster!). Allison H finished in third place after defeating all the other fencers except the two Garys.

Saturday/Sunday 12/13 February 2005 - Merseyside Open
Another successful tournament, with a record entry for the fifth year in succession. A success for the Club as well, with Jeff K taking our first ever Men’s Foil medal at MOFT with his third place. Full results are on the MOFT website.

Monday 17 January 2005 - away match at Liverpool
The Club used one of the weeks when the gym is unavailable to visit Liverpool Fencing Club. A series of team matches was fenced, but no-one can remember all the results!

Sunday 21 November 2004 - West Lancashire One Hit Epee
The club’s annual One Hit Epee competition was once again a sell-out with all 48 places taken nearly three weeks before the event. There were mixed fortunes for the club’s members taking part with Gary L picking up three medals: third place in the men’s individual event, best men’s veteran and, with Gary C and Grant B-T, second place in the team event, while other members fared less well, but their blushes will be spared here. Saturday 13 November 2004 - The Bay Open
Gary C narrowly failed to add to his stack of trophies, losing 9-8 in overtime to Nick Stokes of Leeds in the men’s foil final. Jeff K won a bronze medal the the same event, having gone out to the same opponent in the semi-final. Gary L almost added a third medal, but went down 15-14 in his epee quarter-final and had to settle for 5th place.

Wednesday 6 October 2004 - All Weapon Shield
Gary C continued his winning run in club competitions by retaining the All Weapon Shield. This event is run on a DE basis with each match fenced as the best of three bouts, each at a different weapon. Grant B-T was the runner-up, with Jeff K and Steve E taking the bronze medals.

Saturday/Sunday 2/3 October 2004 - Ashton Open
Gary C claimed another trophy, taking the men’s foil title by beating Paul Fenton of Cressy in the final. Other results: men’s foil: Jeff K 12th, Matt R 16th; men’s epee: Gary C 6th, David S 17th, Vinnie S 20th.

Sunday 19 September 2004 - West Lancashire Invitation Foil
Our annual curtain-raiser to the season saw a three-way tie for first place with the Club unfortunately taking third behind Preston and Liverpool on indicators. Apple ended in fourth place. The full results are available on our Competitions page.

Wednesday 4 August 2004 - Grand Prix
The club’s season-long Grand Prix competition went to the very last fight, with Gary C defeating Gary L in the final foil round to take the title by 2 points. Jeff K finished third, Allison H was the leading woman (sixth overall) and Matt R took the medal for the leading novice/junior.

Wednesday 14 July 2004 - Novices Foil Cup
The club’s annual foil championship for novices with less than two year’s fencing experience was won by Donald Cameron who completed a double, having won the Junior Milroy Cup in May. The competition was held as a poule unique, which ended with three fencers tied on four victories each. Donald beat John 3-2 in a barrage for first place, with Adam taking third.

Wednesday 30 June 2004 - Bradshaw Trophy
The club’s annual epee championship saw Gary C retain the title with a 5-2 win in the final over John F. The bronze medals were won by Gary L and Grant B-T.

Saturday 12 June 2004 - Newburgh Summer Fair
The Club was invited to appear at the Newburgh Summer Fair which this year commemorated the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the village with a medieval theme.

The display featured a duel between Sir Edmund Slackbladder and the upstart Sir Gareth Wannabe, both assisted by seconds with Steve E as the referee and narrator. After the duel, modern day fencing was demonstrated as a contrast.

Saturday 29 May 2004 - York Open
Gary C’s golden run continued when he took the Men’s Foil title with a win in the final over Alex Frankland of Laszlo Fencing. Jeff K finished in 10th place.

Wednesday 5 May 2004 - Junior Milroy Cup
The club’s annual foil championship for the Under 16 members was won by Donald Cameron who defeated last year’s winner Catherine Nixon by 5-1 in the final. Donald was a worthy winner, having been undefeated in his pool when he only conceded one hit in five fights. Anton Tabarn and Michael Abbott finished in joint third.

Wednesday 28 April 2004 - Milroy Cup
The club’s annual foil championship saw Gary C retain the title with a 5-1 win in the final over Jeff K. The bronze medals were won by John F and Allison H.

Saturday/Sunday 3/4 April 2004 - Glasgow Open
Gary C landed the club’s first open title since 1995 with a victory in the men’s foil event. This followed his third place at epee and also earned him the Master-at-Arms trophy. Matt R managed a creditable 42nd place at foil in his first season of open competition.

Saturday/Sunday 20/21 March 2004 - North West Region Championships
Gary C’s first appearance in the championships for many years saw him take bronze medals at both foil and epee and, when added to his 5th place at sabre, the Master-at-Arms Cup for the fourth time. Vinnie S managed a creditable 6th place at epee.

Saturday 6 March 2004 - York Express International Epee
Gary C put some long overdue silverware on the club table with a win in this epee competition which is run as a poule unique with all fights fenced as the first to 10 hits. After finishing in joint first place at the end of the poule, Gary beat Thomas Kaling of Munster 7-6 in the barrage to take the trophy.

Wednesday 25 February 2004 - Farrell Cup
The club’s annual sabre championship saw Gary C retain the trophy with a 5-3 win in the final over Gary L. Bronze medals were won by Grant B-T and Steve E.

Saturday/Sunday 21/22 February 2004 - Merseyside Open
Plenty of competitors at this year’s tournament, but, unfortunately, no silverware. Top foilist was Jeff K in 39th, with Matt R in 59th place at his first open. Top epeeist was David S in 26th, not so closely followed by Gary L (62nd), Vinnie S (63rd), Grant B-T (69th), Barry F (70th), David M (71st) and Benjamin M (75th). Wednesday 21 January 2004 - Friendly match at Preston
The club visited Preston on a Wednesday when the gym was unavailable and fenced a 3-3 draw at foil and epee. Results:

Sunday 23 November 2003 - West Lancashire One Hit Epee 2003
Another sell-out event - all 48 places were taken even before the closing date was reached. The competition was run as a mixed poule unique which left a hall full of exhausted fencers at the end of the day. The best-placed local fencers were Gary C and Club Coach David S, who tied for fourth place. David was awarded the medal for the Best Men's Veteran. Other creditable results were achieved by Vinnie S (8th) and Grant B-T and Gary L who tied for 15th place.

Saturday 15 November 2003 - The Bay Open 2003
Jeff K won his first open medal - a bronze in the men’s foil - which was also the club’s first open medal for some years.

Wednesday 8 October 2003 - All Weapon Shield 2003
Gary C continued his winning run in club competitions by retaining the All Weapon Shield. This event is run on a DE basis with each match fenced as the best of three bouts, each at a different weapon. Grant B-T was the runner-up, with Jeff K and John F taking the bronze medals.

Saturday 20 September 2003 - West Lancashire Invitation Foil Competition 2003
The Club competed against members of the Preston and Liverpool clubs in our annual curtain-raiser to the fencing season. A fourth scratch team was made up from members of the Esporta Fencing Club and the other three clubs. Our seniors team won two out of three matches, with Gary Clark the only undefeated senior fencer. The novices team found themselves up against fencers with greater experience however and were unable to win any of their three matches, although Matt Rigby performed well to record four victories. Overall, the Club finished in third place.

Wednesday 16 July 2003 - Novices Foil Cup
The Club’s annual foil competition for members with less than two years’ fencing experience attracted six competitors in the junior division. Donald Cameron and Michael Abbott both defeated all the other competitors and the gold medal was decided by Donald’s 3-1 win in their head-to-head fight. Paul Barton finished in third place.

Saturday 12 July 2003 - Bickerstaffe Village Fair
The Club performed a display based on one of Shakespeare’s best fencing plays - Romeo and Juliet - on one of the hottest days of the year. Grant B-T was a natural as Romeo and Lorraine H a fetching Juliet, while Gary C contrived to get killed every time that he stepped into the arena!

Wednesday 18 June 2003 - Bradshaw Trophy
The Club’s annual epee championship followed a familiar pattern as Gary C completed a clean sweep of the major trophies, defeating Gary L 5-0 in the final. Grant B-T and Barry F took joint third place.

Wednesdays 4/11 June 2003 - Handicap Shield
The foil competition where all members start at a handicap score and have the option of wearing the miniature electric jacket produced familiar finalists this year with Gary C defeating Gary L by +1 to -1. Both finalists can expect to have severely increased handicaps for next years event! The bronze medals were won by Grant B-T and Jeff K.

Sunday 1 June 2003 - Westside League matches at Preston
The final league session of the season involved just two matches, both lost against Preston, with two victories against Liverpool University by default. The Club finished the season in third place and Gary Clark was presented with the medal as the Foilist of the Season. Full results are on our Competitions page.

Wednesday 30 April 2003 - Junior Milroy Cup
Our foil championship for junior members produced a new champion in Catherine Nixon, who beat all five of her opponents and finished the pool unique two victories clear of Michael Abbott in second place. Anton Tabarn was third and Cara Pendleton fourth.

Wednesday 16 April 2003 - Milroy Cup
Our annual foil championship ended with Gary C regaining the trophy after last years hiccup with a 5-1 victory over Gary L in the final. The bronze medals were won by Grant B-T and John F.

Sunday 6 April 2003 - Westside League matches at Ormskirk
A full afternoon of fencing against Wingerworth, Liverpool and Liverpool University in our home session produced just two wins at foil. The participants wish to keep quiet about it all, but full results are on our Competitions page.

Wednesdays 26 February/5 March 2003 - Farrell Cup
Our annual sabre championship ended with Gary C retaining the trophy with a 5-3 victory over Steve E. The bronze medals were won by Grant B-T and Allison H.

Saturday/Sunday 22/23 February 2003 - Merseyside Open
The most successful tournament yet with almost 300 fencers taking part, but unfortunately no silverware for the Club.

Sunday 12 January 2003 - Westside League matches at Wingerworth
The long journey to Wingerworth produced an enjoyable afternoon’s fencing and four wins (two by default). Gary C was again the star at foil. Full results are on our Competitions page.

Wednesday 18 December 2002 - Christmas Stocking Competition
The annual fun competition on the last fencing night of the year produced four lady semi-finallists, with Allison H taking first prize and the biggest present from the stocking ahead of Elaine S, with Diane W and Lorraine H in joint third.

Sunday 24 November 2002 - Helmac Challenge Shield One Hit Epee Competition
The Club fielded nine members in our annual duelling competition but only Gary L (Best Veteran) managed to take a medal.

Sunday 3 November 2002 - Liverpool YMCA Beginners Foil
A big day for the Club, with Lorraine H winning our first individual foil trophy for many years and Elaine S finishing as runner-up.

Sunday 13 October 2002 - Westside League matches at Liverpool
The Club took part in the first session of the reborn Westside League and won five out of six matches (two by default). Gary C was undefeated at foil and Gary L at epee. Full results are on our Competitions page.

Wednesday 9 October 2002 - All Weapon Shield
The first trophy of the season was won by Gary C, who took the final by default when John H could not attend the second week of the competition. Gary L and Grant B-T took the bronze medals in this knockout event where each match is fenced as the best of three weapons.
