PROFILE
My interest in woodwork began in my school days in the late 1950's. On leaving school I attended woodwork evening class a Linton Village College. In 1979 I went to an evening woodturning demonstration given by an Abington wood turner -the late Mr Harold Ransley. This demonstration captured my imagination and inspired me to have woodturning lessons with him. We became very good friends until he passed away. I will always be grateful for his guidance and enthusiasm.
Subsequently I purchased my first lathe, extended my workshop (twice) enabling me to concentrate on my new hobby.
Friends and family started to show interest in my work. which encouraged me to exhibit at local Craft Fairs. For over 25 years now I have exhibited my work regularly at Fisher Hall in the centre of Cambridge, and more recently at Wandelbury Country Park on the last Sunday of the month. I am also invited to various other Fairs in the region.
I decided to take early retirement from the Welding Institute (TWI) after 46 years, to concentrate on my
woodturning.
I work predominately with English timbers, always seeking out unusual examples. Some of my work includes natural defects and often timbers which have been affected by fugal decay which denomomstrate how natural and unique every piece is.
I do not take on commissions, as I prefer to concentrate on my own designs.
