GTA Liberty City Stories

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories (PSP)

For many people still undecided as to whether they want a PSP or not Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories looks like being more enough to seal the deal. As you’d expect from the title the game is set back in Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto III – this is no port of the PS2 version though but an entirely new game with all new missions and characters.

Rockstar are playing their cards pretty close to their chest at the moment with regards to the specifics of the game, but the few screenshots that have so far been revealed show a game that looks at least the equal of its PS2 inspiration.

The game is set in 1998 and you play as Tony Cipriani, voiced by Michael "Mr Blonde" Madsen, who also appeared in Grand Theft Auto III. Although Liberty City will have the same basic layout as before there will be changes to reflect the fact that its set three years earlier, while the biggest change will be that the Shoreside Vale area is almost twice as big as before.

Missions have been specially designed to not take quite as long as usual, at an average of just two or three minutes, in deference to the game’s portable format. The PSP is going to be the only format this game will ever be released so this year you’ve got to have a PSP if you want a new Grand Theft Auto

Metal Gear Acid

A card game version of Metal Gear is not an obviously appealing concept, unless it’s a quiet game of solitaire while you wait for the cut scenes to end. But that's exactly what Metal Gear Ac!d is.

Snake’s movements and actions are dictated by a deck of cards, which allow him to do everything from lay explosives to hide under his trademark cardboard box. Unwanted card actions can be converted into movement points as you sneak around the grid based game map.

It’s a highly peculiar idea, not helped by a particularly silly storyline and a deeply unhelpful camera system. Yet despite these shortcomings, the game is well suited to the portable format, and it looks and sounds just like the classic games.

Once you get used to how it works it’s difficult not to become addicted
