Jon Doe is a very well known Dj on the underground hardcore scene. However he also plays very hard hard house and we grabbed him for a quick chat.

DN: How did you get into DJing and the whole scene that you are now involved in?

JD: Pete Tong used to do 'Pete Tong's Rap Selection' and then started doing his other stuff.

Major turning points for me:

KLF 'What time is Love' blew me away, I was only 13 at the time, nothing like it was around at the time for that massive production sound, classed as 'Stadium House' which is what I was described as only a month ago, so I am well late!! This sparked my dance music 'thing'.                                                      LFO 'We are back' which I heard on Radio 1, another track I remember!                                                DJ Easygroove at Fantasia New Years 91/92... the first rave tape I heard, this is what made me want to learn to mix as I could hear tunes I had brought being mixed together.

My first P.C., I had tried to make stuff on a crappy synth module but my p.c. let me sample stuff which let me do what I wanted and led to my first record.

DN: What types of music were you into at that stage?

JD: Hardcore and house, anything which sounded exciting

DN: What or who were the major influences in your music?

JD: See Question 1!

DN: How has the scene progressed over the years that you have been a part of it?

JD: What was called Techno in record shops in 96' when I first worked in a record shop would now be called Hard House and Trance.  Hardcore changed to something unrecognisable from what it was at first and I only gave it up when I couldnt sell enough records to break even and I couldnt buy any records because I didnt like them anymore, that's when you are listening to the wrong music.

DN: Do you think that the whole culture of raving is enough to keep the major press away fro the scene, is the image of people with white gloves and dust masks?

JD: How many people go clubbing in the Uk every week?  How many per week wear white gloves and masks etc?  Does it matter to these people if they get reported on or not?  They are just having a laugh and doing what they want. The major 'Music' press is more into reporting on what they feel is current and they report on some strange stuff, they aren't kept away by white gloves.  They reported on white gloves 10 years ago.

DN: Are you involved with any record labels?

JD: UK Hard I write and produce with Billy 'Daniel' Bunter and that is our label.  I co-own Tax Disc records and A&R the projects going on it, as I do for Toast records.

DN: Do you have any new projects in the pipeline?

JD: Remixes of: Tenth Planet 'Ghosts', B.O.N.Y 'Hurricane', Haziza 'One More', A-Project 'Fantasy' and also a 3 remix project of Love Revolution 'Give it to me baby' for Cleveland City records.  I have also done a remix recently for Stimulant Records with Billy 'Daniel' Bunter.

Original Projects: Honeypot E.P. (4 Tracks, not yet completed), UK Hard 3, UK Hard 4, Dimension-X(another version).

DN: What are your all time favorite tracks from any type of dance music?

JD: KLF 'What time is Love'

The M Experience 'Rock your body'

Viola Wills 'Its my Pleasure' +loads of others!

DN: Finally, what are your favorite venues or events to play at?

JD: Hullabaloo in Canada, the Bunker at Slammin Vinyl@ Bagleys, Eat Your Words in Hull.
