Sasha Profile
Sasha began his career like many of today's top DJ's by getting involved
in the warehouse scene of the late 80's and early 90's, DJ'ing in illegal
venues around the country. He then moved on to a residency at one of the
countries first 'super-clubs' - Shelly's. This gave him a platform to
spread his name and gained him a reputation as a good DJ with an ear for
the lesser known tunes.
Over the years he has also built a strong partnership with John Digweed as
they held a residency at Renaissance together before moving on to perform
their Northern Exposure tours.
Although signed to Deconstruction for his own productions, a couple of
years ago Sasha started up the Excession record label. This was in
conjunction with Steven Webster, Phil Segar and Matt Jagger and this label
has already had success with tracks such as "Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo" from
Voices of Kwahn and Cosmic Duo's "Nu Energy". Not necessarily what you'd
expect to hear Sasha playing out, but good dance floor tuneage all the
same.
Sasha's most recent success has been with the new "Xpander EP" released on
Deconstruction. This has been very well received, which isn't surprising
as Sasha is not exactly recognised as being prolific with his releases. In
his own words he is a perfectionist and although his long awaited album on
Deconstruction hasn't been released yet he reckons he now has enough
material for 2 albums!
Recent times have seen Sasha continuing his partnership with John Digweed
in a monthly residency at New York's Twilo club. This has now been running
for a couple of years and has been a huge success. He has remixed
everything from Madonna to Orbital to Seal over the years, and although he
has criticised many of the big clubs attitudes to 2 hour long DJ 'party'
sets he can still be heard playing at Cream, Gatecrasher as well as his
own Tyrant nights in London and Nottingham.
